It is wonderful when I stumble upon a blog or website which introduces me to something fabulous and selfless like The Pillowcase Project which I found on “The Sewing Mommy’s” blog.

The Pillowcase Project is an effort to provide new dresses for 700+ girls in Uganda. We organizing people to make these dresses, which are made from a simple pattern using a Pillowcase.. thus the name.

One of the frequently asked questions on their websites is, “Are you just providing dresses?” The answer they supplied is as follows: “I’m so glad you asked! We have some really exciting plans that we’re working on behind the scenes, including a vocational training course to teach Ugandan woman a trade to make money, and have a business on their own, or pay for tuition to go to school. The ideas and paperwork are nonstop around here. We will update you as soon as we have more “announce-worthy” news!”

The pattern for this adorable project is free and completed pillowcase dresses can be sent to:

Cross Timbers Community Church
Attn: Andrea Schmid/The Pillowcase Project
2525 Florence Rd
Roanoke, TX 76262

The dresses will then be distributed to those who are in need. By the way, they also accept regular pillowcases for distribution!
