People aren't quite sure how to categorize the genre in which CocoRosie lies, but I've never enjoyed categories and labels anyway. I have heard them described as hip-hop, trip-hop, experimental, you name it. Their sounds has been changing over the years and becoming even more eclectic with time. Whether you are not sure what to make of it really shouldn't matter as long as you like it.
And my how they've developed,
CocoRosie's third album
The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn contains such perplexing music and depth that knowing the background on it makes it all the more fascinating. The sisters, Sierra and Bianca Casady, wrote their latest album while penning themselves up on a farm in France. Seriously, they had no contact with the outside world; they just focused on writing new music.
I'm not sure if it worked for them or not, but I am intrigued. I think the reason they are receiving any hype at all is less for their sound and more because they are being so mysterious and...well...odd.
Even so, Touch and Go Records probably doesn't mind if the reason for their publicity it weird or not. As long as it is keeping their name top of mind and selling their records.
