It's so bittersweet to have finished the 7th and final Harry Potter book. J.K. Rowling really out did herself with this one. Though I must say, if you haven't been an HP reader from book one, there is a lot of this one that will not make sense.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
ties up every loose end that existed in this story throughout the series. Secrets are told, memories are read and the real enemies are brought into the light.
Harry, Ron and Hermione are seventeen in this book and it should be their final year at Hogwarts, but instead they are out trying to fulfil Dumbledore's last request and it's a HUGE one. Their lives and everyone who has ever helped them are all at risk. But that's no surprise since the rise of Voldemort...I mean...He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named, the entire world is at risk whether they are part of the magic community or not.
Severus Snape is not in this book much. However, it is his character that makes the biggest impact on everyone in the end. And in the last few chapters we learn a lot about Snape that we didn't know. However, I recall saying that I didn't believe Snape killed Dumbledore, that there had to be more to the story, and now I know.
**SPOILER ALERT**
Gallivanting around looking for Voldemort's horcruxes (the objects in which he had hidden a piece of his soul) the trio ran into much more than Death Eaters and jinxes. They were literally on the run for most of the book. At one point Ron actually left and said he was out, he didn't want any parts of it. This of course made me livid. Because I love Ron and I never would have thought he'd turn his back on Harry or Hermione. Fortunately, he came back and in quite the heroic fashion.
Dumbledore's Army came together in the end and fought against evil. Without any hesitation or questions even all the professors at Hogwart's had his back.
He ended up seeing Voldemort kill Snape. And Snape had Harry bottle some of his memories. Harry brought them back to the penseive and oh the secrets he learned. Snape had been in love with Harry's mom Lily since childhood. And since she was killed he had vowed to protect Harry from harm. Whoa! Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him so that Draco wouldn't have to do it. Because Dumbledore had been poisoned with one of Voldemort's horcruxes and would only survive another year anyway.
During this walk down memory lane, Harry also found out that he needed to die for the end of Voldemort to come to pass. He was the 7th and last horcrux, part of Voldemort's soul was part of him and for Voldemort to die...he had to die. So he went straight up to Voldemort, didn't duel or fight. He just offered his life, looked death in the face, all to save the rest of the world. A completely selfless act. And that my friends is ultimately what saved him.
The rest of the book is up for you to read. And you really should, because it's an incredible fantasy.
P.S. We do learn that Harry marries Ginny AND Ron marries Hermione some years down the road. =o)

Yes, I know the book has been out far too long now for me to not be finished, but I've been busy! It's hard to do a lot of reading with a three-year-old. =o)I'm on Chapter 19 of the latest and last Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I have to say, I'm shocked by a lot of the development thus far and I really hope things tie together or begin making sense soon. It's making me upset!
You can really tell that Harry, Hermione and Ron are seventeen though. They are all types of emotional basket cases.
A fun fact about the book...after only one week on the shelves it has already been nominated in the Best Book category at the first Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards UK, set to take place in London in October. J.K. Rowlings, clearly, you RAWK!
