Fashion is influencing car design
Monday, March 24, 2008
Specifically with cars like...well...Mercedes-Benz."Mercedes-Benz isn't just the world's top automotive brand, but one of the world's great fashion brands as well," said Steve Susi, creative director at Critical Mass. Susi said that the firm had been focused on creating a Web experience that helped redefine the notion of what the Mercedes-Benz brand stood for.
I suppose it works for them. Like those magazines about cars where half naked women splay themselves across the hood. It's really not related at all, but the sexy association is a good marketing tool if both the fashion and the car pick up sales while out on their play date.
"We feel there is a natural affinity between Mercedes-Benz's core values and fashion," said Lisa Holladay, manager of brand-experience marketing. "We think that when it comes to luxury automobiles, there's a lot of emotion in the purchase, a desire for individualism as in fashion." After Fashion Week, Mercedes conducted a direct-mailing campaign for Saks Fifth Avenue and Barneys that led to 4700 new-car sales at last count.
And there you have it.
