Cherry Red Loveliness | Gift Guide 2009
Monday, November 16, 2009Going with a theme for this post of the gift guide...
I really love all things cherry whether the actual fruit, the sundae topping sweetness or in this case the color and theme.
For instance, this super cute necklace from sweetberrybird on Etsy. She is "...a sociologist who has turned into a jewelry designer because of my devouring need for creativity."First Cherries Baby Swallow Necklace...
Necklace description: "Three genuine red coral beads and opalescent white glass blossom flower hang from bronzed brass branch. A large green glass leaf and a lovely brass baby swallow dangle from curb chain." AND the necklace is under $30!
She ships from Montreal, so if your in the US be sure to calculate how long it will take to ship. She ships within 5 business days of the payment clearing. Use PayPal and you're set.
*~*~*
For under $10 you can give this super adorable Cherry & Bow hair clip. It's from Shana Logic which is one of my fave web shops. Love it! So gift certificates from there are fantastic. But in keeping with the theme...back to the clip.Item description: "This awesome hair clip has cool pink PVC cherries centered in the middle of a totally fun black bow with white dots. So super adorable!!"
Plus you can look through other items on their site from designer Ukiyo5. There are really awesome hair extension color clips. Everyone who knows me understands/accepts I have an obsession for these hair clips. I love every color available and they are $10 gifts as well. Deals people deals!
*~*~*
I found gorgeous art prints and note cards on Red Bubble made by Angie McKenzie. The print I specifically love is called "Trees In A Row." It's a fantastical picture of pink cherry blossoms. "Cherry Blossom Trees lined up in pink bloom during the spring season. Newtown, PA."The note cards are under $5 and the prints start at $22 for a 10" x 8" size which is perfectly frameable and it comes with artist details, laminated.
Angie says she is an ametuer photographer, but that makes me wonder what she would call me. Is there a level below a beginner? Haha. She has been in photography for over four years. She likes using warm filters and close-up lenses.
*~*~*
Couple other links for ya...
- jumpupanddown has a Retro Hostess Apron on sale right now for $12, it has a vintage inspired cherry print.
- So Very Cherry Halter Top is also on sale on Etsy for $12, the cherries are actually silver in that print.
Happy gifting!

Feeling the Feltmate Love
Tuesday, November 10, 2009
Etsy is a great place to look for creative inspiration. It's also a fantastic place to find gifts if you have a strict budget. Because if anyone understands penny pinching it would be other crafty people.Right now I'm enjoying looking at Feltmate's Shop. I love their Lovebird Pin Cushion. This would be such a great gift for anyone who loves to sew. If I spent more time at my sewing table I would definitely want something like this. It's cheery, cute and would make me smile each time I saw it.
Item description: Hand felted white wool pincushion in a porcelain dish with two wool love birds firmly perched on top. Both lovebirds are red and white in color. Kiss kiss.

Dali Decals
Sunday, June 14, 2009
Dali Decals is owned and operated by David and Alicia, and is located in Asheville, North Carolina. They started out doing their own vinyl graphics for sports bikes. Since then, they have expanded their business to doing custom signage, motorcycle trailers, business logos for vehicles and buildings, and even wall art. It's the wall art I'm excited about. The one shown in this picture would go well in our baby's nursery. There is an ocean/pirate theme and his bedding has ships on it. There is an accent wall which is an ocean blue color and really a lot of nautical things including the light switch plate. So "We can't change the wind, but we can adjust the sails," would be quite fitting.
I also like the personalized wall letterings. You can have your child's name done or just a monogram and the colors and styles are chosen by you, too.
They have all sized art for the wall including trees which nearly go up to the top of the ceiling so it's as if you have a cherry blossom in your home. There are a few silhouettes to choose from and then of course some animals including whales and birds and such.
So check out their Etsy shop and pick some wall art for your home. Then squeegee away!

Recessionista Sale
Tuesday, June 2, 2009
Recessionista Sale through August: "You scratch my back I'll scratch yours. The economy is tough right now, but that's no reason you can't be beautiful. Treat yourself or someone you love with an item from emmy-ray."She discounted everything in her shop up to 40%, and free shipping on most items! Tell me you don't love this blue enamelled copper skull with yellow/orange hearts and oxidized edges.
About Emily of Emmy-Ray's Etsy Shop...
"I enjoy designing and creating jewelry and am a trained metalsmith and printmaker. All the jewelry pieces on my site are hand made from scratch and often include vintage details such as beads or re-vamped jewelry."
She also sells cool vintage items like old shoes, scarves and such. Definitely check out her shop, especially during this fantastic sale.
Happy Clay
Monday, May 4, 2009
"Add some art to your alcohol - or elegance to your breakfast table."This picture shows a Storm Cloud tumbler with a red interior and gold lip. It can hold up to 12 ounces of liquid, but I might even use it to put candies or something in, because then I would be able to appreciate it more.
The creator, Niki Buckley Crosby, has an Etsy Shop called Happy Clay. She is originally from New Orleans, but finds herself now living in Pennsylvania after Hurricane Katrina. She has her own studio where she builds, creates custom molds, and slip casts her own designs out of stoneware and porcelain.
Of her finishing process, she says, "My glazing process consists of multiple firings using a combination of glazes I've mixed myself, commercial underglazes, my own custom made screen printed decals and typically finished off with a gold overglaze accent firing."
If you really dig her pieces you can e-mail or convo her for wholesale prices. She takes batch orders at wholesale prices for orders placed for 20 or more items.
For more inspiration and peeks into what Happy Clay has to offer you should check out her Flickr Photo Set.
When Niki takes time from casting, building, creating, molding and all that other happy clay stuff, she enjoys "online games of scrabble, occasional naps, bubble baths, daily house cleaning chores, phone calls with friends etc." And when she finally gets to glazing her pieces you'll hear funk, disco or maybe even Prince blaring through Pandora into her studio.

A dotted deer and more from L.J Ink
Tuesday, April 28, 2009
"Classic circles in a Celery Green and Finn is in a sweet brown with white stitching."Finn is part of the new "Woodland Series" available at L.J Inks' Etsy Shop. This particular print is adorable, but I must tell you the name is why it won my heart. I'm due in just a couple more weeks and we are going to be naming our little boy Finnegan, Finn for short. =o)
All art from L.J Ink is drawn and created by Michalle Sessions. She was born and raised in Seattle and is now living in Franklin, TN.
"The memories that I cherish from childhood nearly all revolve around making something and getting lost in those moments and to this day, that is me - a girl who loves to get lost in the things she loves!"
She offers 8x10 prints in her shop, but if you e-mail her to ask for larger prints she is more than willing to oblige. In addition, you can e-mail her for custom orders. So with Mother's Day coming up you could grab one of her prints and have your Mom's initial drawn on. Or you can take it one step further with Michalle's Family Series. There are currently three different prints in the family series and they are all priced under $30 individually which means the gift will not only be fabulous and unique for your Mom, but also affordable for you. Plus you work with Michalle to have the print reflect your family right down to the number and genders involved. It's perfect!
All work by L.J Ink represented here (and anywhere else!) is protected by copyright.
Kit Kelley ORGANIZE
Sunday, April 19, 2009
Since we have been getting the nursery ready for the baby, due in May, we've also been revamping our older son's room. He is five and we don't want him to feel left out or unimportant in any way so he has been helping with his baby brother's room and we have been surprising him with things for his room. His grandparents helped set up a loft bed in his room. It was Brian's bed when he was younger. This left open space for us to get Braeden a desk. The desk fits perfect under the loft and Braeden loves it. He has already begun collecting pencils, pens, paper and envelopes for his letter writing. He loves to write and draw for his friends.
So when I came across this envelope sorter on Etsy I knew I'd have to get it for Brae. The description says "This is a great place to keep your incoming and outgoing mail as well as stamps and such." I agree. It's unique and wonderful, plus I know Braeden will love sorting his envelopes.
It's from Kit Kelley ORGANIZE's Etsy shop.
Another item I'd like to pick up for him would include a Maggie Hallam pencil box, preferably the blue wave box. She makes all the boxes from scratch. The structure is book board. She recesses a small strong magnet into the front edge of the box. Another strong magnet is aligned and recessed into the box lid. The spine of the box is 'drop' (not glued to the tray). The magnets hold it tightly shut.

Love Bunny needs a chance
Thursday, April 2, 2009
Oh come on, this knit bunny is just too cute! Where do people come up with all their ideas and creative notions? I am loving finding Easter things for people to look through in case they need ideas for gifts, I'm going to do some Passover hunting today as well.As for the bunny you see posted here, this is part of the description on the shop page: "The life of a Love Bunny ain't all candy and flowers. Poor Sugar got his heart ripped out by a fast-moving, fast-talking Jack Rabbit. A few careful stitches, and his heart's back in the right place - he's ready to love again. Will you give this sweet little Bunny a chance?"
If that doesn't make you want to give him a chance I don't know what will...except maybe the fact that he is also on sale right now!
Zombree Knits is the Etsy shop where you'll find this cute little bunny and other adorable knits. The designer and owner of the shop says she has a passion for creation. She is a graphic designer/illustrator by day, but all that computer time usually leaves me longing for something tactile. Knitting fills that void. "I love working with fiber and seeing a piece take shape. Most of my creations are pretty organic. I'll often start with a pattern but branch off if I feel that something else is trying to come through. Everything in my shop is one of a kind."
She says she loves knitting with her bamboo needles because they stay warm in her hands. Acrylic is her favorite knit since it's wash friendly.
Just be sure to get to her shop ASAP since there are not many items still left for sale.

Muddy Fingers Pottery
Monday, March 30, 2009
"At my shop, you'll find quite a variety of handmade, original objects with the sole purpose of pleasing your eye and heart."Owner/creator of Muddy Fingers Pottery loves what she does for a living. She lives in Southern California and loves working with stoneware or porcelain. "I manage a pottery studio where I teach 3 classes a week, load, unload, and fire kilns. I love my job and I wouldn't dream of doing anything else for a living. I love clay, my awesome students and feel blessed to be able do what I love for a living."
The Turquoise and White Spring Flower Basket would be perfect for you to have around the house for Easter. Or if you are feeling generous you could fill it with flowers or goodies and give it to your grandma for Easter. The description on the page where you can buy this basket says, "Made from highfire stoneware clay, this graceful basket has some lovely subtle details that give it a certain charm. It is water tight and dishwasher safe. It measures 9" tall and 6.5" wide." I think it's just beautiful!
She also makes pendants from stoneware clay which are stunning and rustic looking. They are strung with thin leather strips. She says they are great for your fall wardrobe, but I think they would be perfect to wear all year round.
Definitely check out the shop, find some Easter giftings and enjoy.

Gnome Homes and Easter Eggs
Tuesday, March 24, 2009
Looking for a way to bring spring inside without the green thumb know how or pollen? Or maybe you'd like to buy a special Easter or Passover gift for someone special. Then you need to know about Gnome Homes! They make moss terrariums which have been a family tradition for three generations. Matt is the chief terrarium creator and Meghan handles shipping, the online stuff and polymer creations.
The terrarium you see pictured here is a Small Egg Terrarium with Orange Mushrooms. It is a perfect little plot of moss to put wherever your life needs a little brightening up!
This lovely little terrarium includes the figurines shown, the two orange mushrooms. All figurines have metal stakes to ensure secure placement within this tiny world. Since they are not permanently attached you can move them around to your hearts content.
This jar is filled with rocks, dirt, moss and love. It is extremely easy to care for...all it needs is indirect light and a spritz of water twice a month.
In anticipation of the upcoming Easter Holiday we have decided that every customer from now until April 8th will receive a FREE Easter egg figurine for their terrarium!
They make four sizes of terrarium's: tiny, small, medium and large.
You can find out more about Matt, Meghan and their crafts at the Gnome Home blog.

NogginsNBobbins
Saturday, March 21, 2009
This floppy ear Easter bunny hat was just too cute not to write about. Made from super soft yarn in "natural" with a big pink flower on the side. This hat can also be made in brown, white, or tan. The hat can also be made with no flower (or detachable flower) and light blue ears and trim for boys. The store is nogginsnbobbins which is also just too cute; what a clever name! The shop's owner is Heather and she resides in Wisconsin. She has three children of her own and is a stay-at-home Mom who somehow also finds the time for crafty projects. She says her grandma taught her to crochet and sew fifteen years ago and the crafts inspire her.
The beanie sizing chart is as follows:
0-3 months fits heads up to 14"
3-6 months 14"-16"
6-12 months 16"-18"
12-24 months 18"-19.5"
2T-4T 19.5"-20.5"
5T-preteen 20.5"-21.5"
Preteen-adult 21.5"-?
In addition to the adorable baby beanies she also sells baby cocoons, scarfs, mittens and sometimes a destash of yarn if you're lucky. She happily accepts custom orders, but asks that you be aware most orders take two weeks to arrive.

Indie Shop: WhichGoose
Thursday, March 19, 2009
"About 6 months ago, I took a long walk in the woods behind my house. It was still the dead of winter and everything was brown. There was this moment when I saw a really interesting bit of vine hanging off a tree - It was so curly and articulate, like an calligrapher's pen stroke. I gathered it, along with some other brown vines, and made my first crown."Our crown designer is located in Frederick, Maryland. Her Etsy shop is called "whichgoose". It's her obsession by day, while she is a newspaper page designer by night.
She says as a child she would play princess or dress up with her older sister. Perhaps it's possible she never really grew out of that love. And so now she creates princess crowns. She says she is committed to making each crown a one-of-a-kind creation.
The crown you see pictured here is called "Tea Time". It features a thin base of vine that is wrapped in sheer ribbon and topped with just two white flowers. I think it is gorgeous and would be suitable even to wear in a wedding or to the prom. The designer thinks it would also be great for an outdoor garden party or spring festival.
The crowns are made from a base of dried natural vines, harvested from along my favorite walking paths. They are stripped, woven and protected with a clear sealant.
And yes, she is very willing to create custom orders, all you have to do is ask.

Scrabble Tile Art
Thursday, March 5, 2009
Some of us look at scrabble pieces and think only about the word game. Others mentally begin creating works of art, pieces of unique jewelry where the sky is the limit on what can be dreamed up.Lisa Owens was born in Grand Rapids Michigan. She spent the first half of her life in Michigan and then moved to San Diego for some time. Two years ago she moved to Washington, Utah where she lives with her son and best friend of a husband.
"I create one of a kind pieces of jewelry using images or text and resin. I find that there is no substitute for the shine and depth that resin offers. I have been collecting vintage books and pictures for over 10 years and I am very happy to be offering my creations here on Etsy! My designs come from the things that bring happiness to my life. I hope they will do the same for you!"
Her Etsy shop is called "It's All About The Print." She has it stocked to the brim with tiles she has created, necklaces and supplies for those who share her passion. You can buy one item at a time, but she also offers sets and whole sale units for those of you who just can't get enough.
I very much like all the tiles, but in typical Christy fashion I find myself drawn to the word maps or text tiles which have fabulous quotes and sayings on them. The one you see pictured here is her "Seize the Day" necklace tile and I simply love it. It is finished with super shiny, glass-like resin. The edges are lovingly sanded and rounded for a professional finished appearance. And it's only $6.95, hello my friends, you cannot beat that deal!

Designs By Nancy
Thursday, February 26, 2009
Nancy is located in Williamsburg, Virginia. Her Etsy profile had me chuckling when I read through it. She sounds like she has a handle on things in her life, even if the handle needs a little bit of TLC or wood glue. =o)From her profile: "I love all things arts and crafts because you can express yourself without limitations. I started making jewelry a few years ago when my best friend and I decided to take a class, just to do something for us for a change, and I was hooked. I have a full-time (non-craft oriented) career outside the home but also claim the coveted roles of mother, wife, housekeeper, laundry mistress, chauffeur, nursemaid, and all of the hundred other things women do. I am so thankful for my creative outlet - it keeps my sanity! (Well...sometimes.)"
In terms of her favorite materials, she enjoys working with natural stones, shells, glass and wood, as well as bamboo.
The tote you see pictured here is called a "Micro Tote." She says it is the perfect size for your phone, keys and wallet. There are bamboo handles and the fabric has a suede-like feel. Plus you can see there is a cute silver pendant attached. And it's under $20!
In her store you'll find other totes as well as the jewelry she makes. And it says that all orders from her DesignsByNancy Etsy Shop received a free gift of some kind.

Little poems for the eyes
Thursday, February 19, 2009
Irene Suchocki is a photographer of things which are every real entities, but once found in her camera's lens seem to turn into a dreamscape. Her prints have been displayed in galleries and exhibitions nationwide, including at the Sundance Film Festival. They can also be found in private homes all over the world. In addition, several prints were seen on Extreme Makeover Home Edition (Gilyeat Family episode which aired February 10, 2008.)
"I enjoy experimenting with different styles and techniques, both in-camera and in my digital darkroom. Faithfully capturing a scene is less important to me than finding that little bit of mystery or evoking a certain mood. I like to explore the ethereal, the surreal, the whimsical, the mysterious, and the beautiful. I enjoy creating little poems for the eyes."
You can find Irene's prints available on Etsy in her online shop of "Scenes, Dreams and Visions."
The print you see pictured in this post is called "Fireweed." The description says, "This haunting image of an abandoned house and a field of fireweed was taken in rural Prince Edward Island in Canada."
All prints are on premium acid-free, archival paper, which has a matte finish. Irene signs the back of each of them for a sweet, personal touch. You can contact her directly if you would like something printed on canvas.
With over 100 photos currently for sale in several sizes and feels I think everyone who looks through them will be in awe of what simple images Irene has turned into beautiful magic.

Since I Came Back
Thursday, February 12, 2009
Apparently I am smitten with mixed-media paintings. It's not that I like collages ordinarily either, it's just the creativity and textures that are applied to mixed media are such an inspiration. I love breaking it down and noting all the individual pieces, while I also enjoy seeing how the artist was able to make it all become a cohesive work of art.Jennifer Z. Roszell has artwork in galleries and homes all over, including the SF Bay Area at A Different Day Gallery. She has a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of New Hampshire in 1998, and went on to study fine art and design at the Massachusetts College of Art and U.C. Berkeley Extension.
In terms of her mediums and inspirations she says, "My influences include design, architecture, pop culture and nature. Most recently, I have found new inspiration in my everyday life after the birth of my first daughter, and I have already seen exciting changes in my work."
What you see pictured in this post is the design of one of her note card sets. The set is called, "Since I came back," and you get six cards, paired with matching white envelopes. Everything comes all wrapped up beautifully, which makes it ready to give as a wonderful gift, too.
We can now buy affordable prints at her shop on Etsy, jzroszell.etsy.com.

TwilightSpells
Tuesday, February 10, 2009
"I'm passionate about recycling, vintage, salvaged and natural materials and turning them into beautiful things for the home. I believe that good design needn't cost the earth."Ruth is the creator behind TwilightSpells. She is inspired by the beautiful things around her in nature, even something as simple as walking through a Lavender field can pique her muse.
She recently went to Lavandula, a Lavender Farm in Hepburn Springs. She said, "They have a lovely shop where their Lavender products are sold and for a small entrance fee you can have a look at the whole property. The place has a really nice feel about it, it is like a peaceful oasis in a hectic and busy world."
Ruth originally lived in Germany, but love brought her half way across the world when she married her husband. Now she is located in Melbourne, Australia and as most of us know they are experiencing tragic brush fires in that area due to not only drought, but also the work of horrible arsonists. The death tolls have been rising by the day. For those living in that area she is offering prayers and discount in her TwilightSpells Etsy Shop.
What drew me to Ruth's work were her Vintage Twist tea cup candles. I think they are stunningly beautiful and warm. The product description says, "Bring the cosy feeling of old world charm into your home on a cold winter's night... or just any night you would like a bit of twilight magic." How enchanting does that sound!?
The candles are made just for you, so you choose the scent. Made of soy wax, they should burn from 15 to 20 hours which means plenty of time to enjoy the fragrance and the ambiance.
Be sure to check out TwilightSpells on Etsy and grab a tea cup candle, they are VERY affordable and simply delightful!

Roadside Project Paper Art
Sunday, February 8, 2009
Jayme McGowan is paper artist and illustrator working in Sacramento, California."My hope is to produce work in a variety of media, in large and small scale, that aim toward a high level of artistry and innovation while maintaining a spirit of roadside earnestness."
As you can see, her paper art is three dimensional and colorful. In some respects it reminds me of the Coraline illustrations. When you order a print of the art it comes on paper which is archival, moisture and scratch resistant, and has a luster finish (soft gloss) for vivid color that gives the 2D printed image as much life as the original 3D illustration.
She says having a shop, Roadside Projects, on Etsy (coming up on a year now) has helped with her inspiration.
"Etsy is a huge inspiration, just seeing what kind of creative things other folks dream up."
She has all her past artwork and projects photographed and shown on Flickr, http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadside.

ARRL announces second homebrew challenge
In 2009, ARRL ups the ante in the Second Homebrew Challenge by upping the power limit to 50 W. All entries are due no later than February 28, 2010.
"Low power (QRP) operation is fun, but often a little more power is even more fun," said ARRL Technical Editor Joel Hallas, W1ZR.
"For our new challenge, we are asking readers to design, or adapt a published design (with appropriate credit), and build a 50 W amplifier to follow a 5 W/40 meter transceiver. This could be used behind one of the radios from the original challenge, or from other QRP radios at similar power level."
There will be two cash prizes for this challenge. In addition to the prizes, the winners will receive the usual QST page rate for published articles.

SewnSunday Profile
Sunday, February 1, 2009Kristin lives in Tallahassee, Florida and has been sewing productively for about three years now. It's not her full time job and so most of her projects get worked on during the weekends, specifically on Sundays.
She loves working with old materials, buttons she has found at flea markets or Good Will and vintage materials or fabrics. For you this means getting items which are beautifully one of a kind in her SewnSunday Etsy shop.
So far the majority of items she has sold in her Etsy shop have been clutches and totes. She makes small clutches and bigger totes made of of recycled fabrics like from old sweaters.
But the item which brought me to SewnSunday is her "Big Heart, Little Apron." The size is similar to a serving apron and so it ties around your waist. The fabric is blue and white with a checkered belt. The red heart on the apron is trimmed in a vintage lace. And her description says if you plan on staying in on Valentine's Day and treating your sweetie to a homemade dinner, wearing this apron with your little black dress or even your birthday suit will definitely make an impression. I know my hubbie would approve. And hey, then you would be the dessert. ;o)
Below is an Etsy mini of some of my favorites!

KatsKuriousity
Thursday, January 29, 2009Her Etsy profile begins with this: "I am a Tribal belly dancing stay at home mom (of 2 amazing children)with a passion for beads and fantasy jewelry." If that doesn't immediately pique your interest I really don't know what will, but just in case you should check out all the amazing jewelry she had made to sell in her Etsy shop, KatsKuriousity.
If you're looking to buy a Valentine gift for your sweetheart. Or you're a sweetheart looking for some lovely jewels to wear on Valentine's Day then she has everything you could ever ask for. There is a section devoted to Valentine-esqu designs called "To My Valentine." Which currently has one less item because I admit I had to have the Cherry Love - Luscious Heart Earrings. But there are still more jewels to be purchased.
If you're a necklace kind of girl than you won't want to delay from buying the "Love is Golden" vintage style necklace pictured here. The description at her shop says, "This gorgeous piece is made with a gold Murano style heart adorned in crystal gold plated beads and finished off with a brushed gold chain." I think it is simply stunning.Aside for the beautiful jewels, another great thing about this shop is the free U.S. shipping. And of course with prices you simply can't match anywhere else it all adds up to being the best purchase you'll ever make for Valentine's Day.
If you're looking for something darker or wilder than check out her other shop KatsKlaws. The pieces you will find there are a bit more frightening or, I'm guessing, fit her tribal belly dancing self a bit more closely.

barkingbirdart
Wednesday, January 28, 2009
Oh my goodness! I am so excited that I just stumbled across barkingbirdart on Etsy.com.The online shop says, "If you like your critters sweet and a little sassy, you've come to the right place. Birds. Hedgehogs. Bunnies. Turtles. If they're cute, I've got'em!"
They certainly do! Pictured in this blog post you can see a limited edition illustration called "Bird on Electric Guitar" and there is no denying it is just awesome! 50 of these prints have been made available to purchase in the shop. They are printed with "archival quality pigment inks on 100% rag, acid free, velvet art paper. Image size is 8x10 inches centered on an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper, leaving a nice white border for easy framing."
I believe I'll be purchasing some illustrations for Braeden's room, the baby's room AND for gifts to mamas-to-be because I think they are just perfect for any child's room or nursery.
While I don't know anything about the artist, she seems pretty down to earth and fun. Her Etsy profile says, "My name is Rebecca and I live in Portland, Oregon with a baby, a teenager, a husband, two nice cats and a REALLY stubborn dog. I like illustration, cute things, and a strong cup of tea."
Me too, I always put two tea bags in the mug! Kismet!

Hopeless Romantic Designs
Tuesday, January 20, 2009
You must not miss out on Shana Logic's Valentine Line. They even have great gifts for us ladies to give to the men who own our hearts. Including an awesome black t-shirt expressing spork love, which I know my friend Tink over at, Pickled Beef, would love. Or perhaps the skull coaster set if sporks are not right for your man.*~*~*
Anthropologie has the cutest clothes, jewelry and home decor. I wish I had the money to just go crazy at their shop, but I don't. However, they do have a pair of earrings currently on sale that would be perfect for Valentine's Day. For under $30 you can buy your sweetheart Hopeless Romantic Posts from Anthropologie.
*~*~*
Of course GAP has all their Valentine line out and ready for purchase. From pink peony totes to pink boxers adorned with little white hearts. So cute. Uh, not for me since I'm big and pregnant, but for all of you other ladies.
*~*~*
And if you'd like to give a little something special to your pet for Valentine's Day you should check out NurdBunny's shop on Etsy. They have cut little hats and scarfs for your pup. If my dog liked wearing anything I'd be all over this!

Hoot the Owl
Saturday, January 17, 2009
LilaCamy recently opened a shop online with Etsy. While the amount of things currently offered is small I can tell you the quality is huge and it is obvious super awesome items will be coming from here. She makes crochetted and knitted amigurumi creations. And promises there will be more animal amigurumis and character style amigurumis coming soon!
Her favorite materials are Yarn, Silks, Merino wool and felt. At only 24 years old she has a very creative eye and an adorable fount of imagination.
Pictured here is my favorite from LilaCamy and yes it's an owl, I do love owls! Hoot the owl is under $10 and everything else in the shop is currently $15 or less. Can't beat that!
Modern Bird Jewelry
Friday, January 16, 2009
Located in Tampa, Florida has been part of the inspiration behind Modern Bird Jewelry. Jewelry artist, Laura Flavin, says "I make modernist and contemporary silver jewelry through the art of metalsmithing. My bold and modern designs are infused with a sweetness inspired by nature - the wildlife in my neighborhood near the Hillsborough River in Tampa, Florida."
One of the items which I particularly like and which drew me to her shop is the "Little Bird" necklace. The little bird is cast in sterling silver. There is a delicate etched pattern around the outer edges of the bird shape. And in the center is a tiny silver heart which further makes the bird adorable. The product description says the lobster clasp is hooked onto the necklace with tiny crystals of varied colors which sounds like it would make the complete design even more spectacular.
Right now there are 44 items for sale, but she is constantly updating and selling so there's always more to see. If necklaces aren't our thing there is also a fine selection of earrings and rings to look through. Prices range from $175 to $16 so there is something for everyone's budget which is especially nice. So keep this shop in mind for Valentine's Day coming up.
Laura has one other Etsy store at which she sells vintage goodies and jewelry materials that need to be destashed. This store is called Modern Bird Vintage.

Hawea and Primped Paperie
Wednesday, December 17, 2008
Lara has been designing and selling beanies for 5 years in various ski resorts in Utah, Lake Tahoe, and New Zealand. All designs are original and made for style, comfort, and warmth. She started the business on her own and named it Hawea, how cool is that? I love the beanies with the brim, especially when they come with a colorful band across the front. The Samantha Beanie is my favorite of the items in her Etsy store right now.
Next on the list of items I have been drooling over on Etsy are the prints you can find at Primped Paperie. I specifically love the "I'll Keep You Warm" print where the little girls scarf is wrapped around her and her teddy bear. The paper it comes printed on is archival matte cotton fine art paper. This means the prints will last forever! The illustrator at Primped Paperie says she finds inspiration in many things. She says, "If my work makes you giggle, cry, or hug your post man for no apparent reason, then my job is complete!" How sweet!?
Another shop you might be interested in perusing is Charm Design. Charm Design was founded by Ranja Lee who is a stay-at-home mom with two children. She was born in Japan. She studied at the Vantan Design Institute in Tokyo and worked the children clothing company as a clothing designer for several years in Tokyo. She moved to Los Angeles in 1994, and studied Graphic Design at the California State of University Fullerton. Some of her work had been featured on the Martha Stewart show back in February of 2008. How super cool! She designs and sews all different sized purses and pouches in fantabulous fabrics and colors. Whether you like flowers or stripes or turquoise or cranberry she has a bag for you. You can find some of her items priced at $20 and below which makes for a great gift when times are tough.

Kate Endle Collage
Friday, November 14, 2008
With the holiday season quickly approaching I thought I'd start writing about some online indie shops I enjoy and the gorgeous, unique or quirky deals you can find in them. I mean we all are tight on funds these days so shopping early and shopping bargains is important, but if you're like me you also want to be the one to give the cool gifts that everyone will love.Kate Endle went to the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio. She designs and creates everything you can imagine from simple illustrations collages on posters, magazines, stickers, picture books, bus shelters, all the way to fiberglass pigs. =o)
Her shop on Etsy makes available many of her designs and in three different forms. You can choose from: original one of a kind collages on stretched acid free canvas with a decorative 1.5" edge, a collage on acid free rag paper or digital print on acid free cotton rag paper.
She even has children books available for sale at amazon.com, Kate Endle Children Books on Amazon.com

ShaNickers
Friday, August 15, 2008
One of the many brilliant designers on Etsy is Shanon1972. Shanon is an Interior Designer and along with some great pieces of home decor she has quickly become a success with her new decals. The decals are cleverly named ShaNickers! They are repositionable wall decals. All of her copyrighted designs are UNIQUE and Handmade-you will NOT find these anywhere else in the world!!
The design you see here is called "Daises II" and the tallest of the two flowers is 70" high! Incredible! She says they are great for your kids rooms, but I like it for anywhere. I think it would be especially fantastic out in a sunroom.
All of her decals are interchangeable in color and she even offers a wood grain look if you want the design to be more subtle.
Shanon vows to constantly create new, unique things for your home, so check her Etsy store often.

Handpainted by Vickie Silcox
Thursday, June 5, 2008
Being a wine lover you would think I have fancy wine glasses, but I don't. They are simple, glass wine glasses which Brian and I received at our wedding shower. It really wasn't important what the glasses looked like as long as they held enough wine. =o)But these Whimsical Bella Hand Painted Wine Glasses on Etsy are so gorgeous I just might have to rethink my stance.
The glasses are lead free and dishwasher safe which is a plus, but I am more curious as to how beautiful red wine would look in combination with the swirls of color on the outside of the glass.
The original artwork is done by Southern California artist, Vickie Silcox. She hand paints pretty much anything you could ask for and is always willing to do custom orders so the items match decor you already own.
From her Etsy profile: "Glass painting explores a unique and profound paradox in art. By painting glass, I want the viewer to look at the shadow of the art as well as the art itself. Glass art is unique in that the shadow contains and expresses the composition and color of the art, a reflection, if you will, as well as a shadow. Trying to find where the shadow begins and where the reflection ends leads to the wonderfully infinite paradox that is glass art."
She also makes t-shirts with original artwork as well. She is an extremely talented artist and I think it is fantastic she is so willing to share her gift with the world.

Environmentally Friendly Gifts
Monday, May 12, 2008
Etsy. Ah yes. I signed up to sell things and have been busy buying things. This is what happens when faced with amazing handmade products. You just can't pass 'em up. At least I can't. =o)Anyway, one of their gift guides has some fantastic ideas. It is the "Environmentally Friendly" guide.
MamaVSoap has some items showcased in the guide today. One of which is Mama V Vacation Breeze Soap. The descriptions says, "Picture a warm, tropical island. Calypso music wafts seductively toward your ears while sand, surf, and SPF 30 suntan lotion merge to form your perfume." Gladly, Mama V! She makes it easy to want her soaps because they are free to ship in the US and only $4.25 a steal for an organic product!
You will also find items from Katie Sue. She makes baby clothes made out of organic materials. They are adorable! Everyone who purchases an item will receive a free organic lip balm as well! Even better, Katie Sue will customize outfits for your little one if you ask. Perfect for gifting!
Always changing, so check the guide often. Or scoop the feed.

Mad Hatter Ceramics
Wednesday, April 30, 2008
"Mad Hatter Ceramics reflects my passion for all things whimsical. I love creating pieces inspired by Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter's Tea Party. My favorite pieces merge form and function - they are artfully designed objects that can be used in everyday life."Once upon a time I begged my parents for a kid's pottery wheel. I made a few awful looking things and realized it wouldn't be my gift. Haha. So I am always amazed to see such fantastic ceramics made by other people. Being able to craft on a wheel and sculpt something beautiful from nothing just by using your hands is quite a gift.
Elizabeth Langsfeld is a ceramic artist working and teaching at Creative Clay Studios in Alexandria, Virginia. Mad Hatter Ceramics is her online Etsy shop.
My favorite pieces for sale in her shop right now are the button glasses and the button vase. I think they are simply adorable. They are all different vibrant colors and have been glazed. Each piece is microwave, dishwasher and food safe which is a huge plus. You can mix and match to form a set or buy just one, maybe the vase, and give it as a gift with flowers in it.

Restless Things
Saturday, April 26, 2008
For archival prints and original drawings by Olivia Jeffries, the only place to shop is at "Restless Things". Olivia Jeffries is an emerging mixed media artist from the UK."She is continually influenced by her fascination for used paper; she enthuses about working on a surface that has already been given a sense of purpose in a previous incarnation."
She has mini prints for sale in her shop right now and they are simply enchanting. They are only $3! Each mini print is postcard sized archival print created from an original drawing on a vintage book page titled 'Sketch for Floral... ' and is printed on lightly textured, natural white archival paper.
For those of you interested in a limited edition piece you should check out her "In the dark, do I exist" print which is exquisitely forlorn. The sketch is drawn on an old envelope which further makes it one of a kind. Even as a limited edition the print is less than $18, such a steal!
Her favorite materials are paper, ink and pencil. You certainly can't get simpler than that. Yet each sketch and print ends up looking like an antique masterpiece.

Purple Flower Designs
Tuesday, April 22, 2008
What sold me was the "Travelling Felt and Pencil Holder in Whistle While You Work" it's cute, it's practical and it helps both parent and child learn to organize and keep things tidy.PurpleFlowerDesign's shop currently has 55 items for sale. All handmade, all gorgeous and with fantastic colors, designs and textures to choose from. Whether a pencil holder, or a bag, pillow or sachet there are a ton of adorable items are reasonable prices.
Of course you all know I took the handmade pledge and am constantly trying to find new independent shops which have handmade items. I mean there isn't any other way to get quality products these days.
This particular female designer says, "I like to think of my handbags as functional art." You can tell exactly what she means when you look through the bags she has for sale and the bags she has already sent to lucky new homes. She takes a great pride in each item she creates and hopes it brings happiness to whomever purchases it.
Make sure to look through the shop and find her new "Daytripper" bags. She named them daytripper because they are large enough to tote everything you need for a day trip to the beach or park. Just as important as the functionality (which includes a magnetic snap) is the fantastic fabrics these bags are available in; so gorgeous!
Yay! Go shop!

Green amoebas
Friday, April 18, 2008
If ever we have the chance to meet, readers, than you'll find I have a slight...albeit alarming fascination with amoebas. This I blame all on the movie "Signs" with Mel Gibson in it. Because the little girl in that movie would not finish a glass of water that had been sitting out due to her fear of amoebas. My husband corrects me each time I whine about amoebas assuring me they are everywhere and being OCD about it will not help me in the slightest. However, I will still say something needs to be cleaned or I can't touch something because it is infested with amoebas.
And so when I saw the "Green Amoebas - Mighty Mini Pouch" at Sonya's Moonbeam Boutique on Etsy I nearly squealed aloud! I don't have any spare change at the moment otherwise it would be mine I tell you. MINE!
She makes and sells totes and mini-pouches in her shop. Sonya and I share the same fabric addiction and so she has a myriad of different patterns and colors to design gorgeous and funky bags. Her items sell fast so don't hesitate to scoop something up ASAP. With her cute designs and outstanding prices everything about the Moonbeam Boutique is perfect!
Sonya is also an Elementary Education graduate which along with her family being of creative background, she has the golden touch of craftiness in her blood.

Fur Will Fly
Friday, April 11, 2008
Who knew a plush white blood cell could end up looking so cute? I certainly never would have thought it. But somehow Fur Will Fly was able to design a plushie of a white blood cell and spin it something adorable. =o)My personal favorite plushie from this shop is The Lovebot. Described as a, "Cute little purple robot. The LoveBot shows you just how much he loves you using the Love-o-meter on his tummy!"
The owner lives in the UK and she only joined Etsy in February of 2008 so she is still pretty new to the online shop world, but she is filled with pent up creativity and is constantly adding new items which you will most definitely fall in love with! Even the zombie plushies are adorable. She is a member the Etsy Plush Team and the Mad Scientists of Etsy Team!
She also makes greeting cards to match her plushie collection. Like the "Bare Bones" thank you card.
Very cute and awesome prices on everything so be sure to check out Fur Will Fly before her items start flying away. =o)

"Nest Pretty Things" & "VeryFairy"
Thursday, April 3, 2008
Yes, yes, I know, I'm addicted to Etsy. But look, you can find such amazing artists and handmade goods on this site it is inspiring and amazing!Today while responding to mail in my own Etsy store, I also began looking through recently uploaded products and I came across Tamar's Etsy shop.
She is a mom, an interior decorator and a product designer living in Vermont. Last she she launched two of her own lines on Etsy, "VeryFairy" for her whimsical fairy crowns, "Nest Pretty Things" for everything else, both are registered trademarks. Whether you are shopping for a gift, for yourself or as a surprise for a little girl in your life you will absolutely love looking through this shop. Everything in it is simply magical!
You can read more about her at her blog, Nest Decorating. You'll find she is a fun and loving person who very much enjoys what she does. Passion goes far when being a designer and it shows through in her work very well!

insane jelly fish brings good luck
Monday, March 17, 2008
The shop is insanejellyfish and of course you can find it online at Etsy. The shop owner is Erin, she is from New Mexico and she is brilliantly creative. You can read more about her at her blog.Today what caught my eye is the "Four Leaf Clover Bracelet" for sale. Handmade, hand stamped and very cute! It's a silver plated chain bracelet featuring a pewter four leaf clover charm and the word "LUCKY". It is accented by faceted green glass.
She also has a four leaf clover pendant, sold separately, which is just as exquisite.
Her prices are super reasonable considering the time put into crafting this jewelry and the quality of what you get. There are items under $10! And nothing more than $65 at the moment. Plus if you are a jewelry crafter yourself, she also sells items to help you add to your collection while she destashes her own. =o)

Ghost Apples
Thursday, March 13, 2008
Being an Etsy addict I always look to see what they are featuring on their front page. This morning there is an apple theme so all the featured picks have something to do with apples. These shoes named Ghost Apples were one of the chosen items. Though ther are far too expensive for me to ever buy I am still staring at the picture and drooling. I love them. But I don't think I would ever wear them, I'd probably hang them on the wall or somehow display them because they are so awesome.
The etsy shop selling these shoes is maintained by ndeurshoes. And on his shop's front page he writes "Hello hello, I am Mathieu Missiaen. My brand is NDEUR; I paint canvas, walls, anything and everything. My designs are street, modern, fun and will make your shoes a work of art. Together we will change the way the world thinks of fashion."
So true. So true.

She likes shiny objects
Tuesday, March 4, 2008
What she says, "Much like a crow, I like things that sparkle, so naturally, I was drawn to beads. Swarovski Crystals to be exact."Well heck woman fly on because your love for things that shine has aided you in creating some of the most uniquely darling items of jewelry I have ever seen. And I'm not much of a jewelry person. Truly. I hardly wear any bling at all, but I'm definitely going to be showing off some earrings from your shop.
In addition to delightful earrings, like the pair shown in this post, she also makes her own soy candles in flavors like "Sex on the Beach" and "Southern Summer" which just sounds so delicious and amazing. Earrings for $14 and candles that burn for 60+ hours for only $8. Come on, it's a steal!
The name of the game is Auntie Di's and there is no reason to linger here any longer. Head to her online shop and be prepared for some much needed spending.

Quiet yeti creature named Loop
Wednesday, February 27, 2008
Gleefully, I sit at my desk and surf through the latest additions of creative goodness on Etsy. Creator Elephantine is one of my favorite sellers, this is the shop of Rachel based in Seattle, WA.Rachel says, "I want to write a novel, make my own clothes, open a plushie shop, and cook more than mac & cheese... Elephantine is about what makes me crazy (in a good way)."
As far as I can see she is already doing those things. I mean she is selling plushie's on Etsy and sending them to shops all she needs to do is find the means to open her own. I foresee this in her future, she has a brilliant creative mind and the gumption to make her dreams come true.
My current favorite item from her Etsy shop is "Loop." She describes Loop as a sweet, quiet yeti creature. "He owns a set of blue cymbals to crash when the moment is right. He also loves chocolate covered fruit, central park, and skydiving."
Well Loop, you and I have a lot in common though I have never been skydiving I do think it would be very exciting. =o)
Check out her blog, too.

"Understood only from within. Excellence within oneself. That ONE Thing you are good at. The One thing you are meant to do...supposed to do. The ONE Thing that DEFINES YOU. This is Arete.Become what you are..."
That is the first paragraph on Beth's Etsy profile. Her jewelry crafting began when she was in a low point of her life. She started creating jewelry from stained glass pieces she found. People would like them so much she ended up selling some right off her neck.
Now she creates all sorts of jewelry from necklaces to earrings and even purses from time to time. Arete is the place to keep up with the crafts and the store is online with Etsy.
Currently, there are fabulous pieces with a Valentine theme. They are so adorable so get one while they last. Most items are under $20 with some even under $15 so they go fast.
ohpotato
Thursday, December 13, 2007
This year I shopped Etsy, specifically from, "ohpotato goods" which has handcrafted items made by Jessie Keylon. There is a little blurb about Jessie on her blog which says, "Jessie Keylon is (amongst other things) an artist, a photographer, a crafter, a piano playing maniac, a thrift store fanatic, and an all-around swell gal." From looking through her Etsy store, I can at least attest to her being a fantastical crafter/artist.
With seasonal elements added to her work you can currently find Santas', reindeer and birds with scarves for sale at her online shop. But being a nature-loving, city girl she tends to portray the city lifestyle with a natural twist which ultimately means you get attitude, vibrant colors and tons of personality in each piece of work.
Jessie makes a bunch of cool items! She has necklaces, ornaments, prints, magnets and sketch books to tickle your fancies. The materials she uses typically are recycled goods. For instance, she paints onto old newspaper pages or dictionary pages which makes each item completely unique and interesting. Not to mention everything you get will be signed.
Don't worry about caring for your purchase, because instructions will be included. If you want to know about cleaning one of her handmade necklaces she will have all the "no no" moves and tips for a safe wash.
So swing by her shop and pick up some of the craftiest gifts out there!
rowenafinn
Monday, December 10, 2007
"My current work is a culmination of these varied arts and crafts experiences, combining a love of life with a love of jewel-tone colors, sculptural texture, and metalwork."That excerpt can be found on the profile page of rowenafinn.
My brother is infatuated with art. Paintings and prints that express something to him are often mentioned in our conversations. He used to be something of an artist himself though he hasn't dabbled in sketching for a couple years. I suppose I can thank him for helping me to appreciate artwork when I stumble across something that really speaks to me.
rowenafinn recently painted a piece which she based on Claude Monet's "Poplars on the Edge of the River Epte." Whereas the original done by Monet was muted and soft, rowenafinn kicked it up a notch. She added her own personal flair and for me it brought the painting to life, I'd even say it gave it spirit. You can buy her rendition at her Etsy store for $350 which would be a steal for any true art collector.
Isn't it glorifying? I just love it. Look at the beautiful blue and the wonderfully depicted reflection painted in the lower left corner. You can tell she was inspired by Monet and yet motivated in her own right to make it radiate. Well done girl, well done!

Modern day sound; vintage look
Tuesday, September 18, 2007
These hi-fi bookshelf speakers look like a vintage amp! They have the technology of modern world stereo sound, but they look like retro guitar amps. Definitely an awesome style for your entertainment room, especially if you have lighter colored decor.
They are made by Exeluxe and you can find them on Etsy. Yes, I know I love Etsy, but truly if you like quality original items, where else can you go?
"Exeluxe is a happy little company with smart looks and a keen talent that makes products for people, and people alone."
