Why do you need to sign up and become a part of Me.dium? And now!?
This is a tool unlike any other type of networking tool on the web at this moment. Me.dium works with your browser and allows you to share your favorite sites immediately with an entire social network. In short, you are given the chance to reveal "the real web" that might not show up at the top of search results. Let's face it, this happens, unless you can buy advertising and sold out key words it is impossible to get traffic to your site. Trust me I know this, and that is ONLY ONE reason why Me.dium is a MUST DO.
It's not just for hype though, everything you can possibly imagine gets filtered and tagged and prominently displayed for all those who share common interests. Talk about a vast world wide web, it's just awesome. I mean you add your friends to your own me.dium and then you can surf together, literally. I'm so happy there were geeky enough people out there to create something so flippin' cool.
"Me.dium is a browser sidebar that allows you to surf with your friends. Live. In real-time. With Me.dium, you’ll get a personalized map of the Internet that updates as you and your friends move. The map also recommends relevant sites based upon your current online activity to help you find what you’re looking for."
Don't believe me?
Just try it. You'll see what I mean.

When my Mom's dog passed away a few weeks ago, she was devastated. She is still grieving but has been contemplating getting a new pup. So I have been searching around looking for possible pups that need rescuing or could be adopted.
In my surfing I came across AnAmigo.com which is a site for
pet lovers. You can build custom profiles for your pets, connect with other pet owners, and learn about the pet community both online and, when possible, in your local neighborhood.
Everyone loves to show off their pets and with AnAmigo you can upload an unlimited number of photos to do just that. Aside for pet pics, you can also share your favorite stories and socialize in the community center, blog about recent animal adventures, ask for expert advice, spread the word about your favorite animal services, accessories, and pet friendly places, and get tips on their favorite toys.
I read about a cat in Virginia named Mischa. The owner wrote that she is the sweetest cat ever with people but VERY aggressive with other cats. Her favorite activity it begging for food. Perhaps she was a male dog in another life.
This site is a fantastic idea for people who have pets or are looking for pets because they can get advice from others who actually know about the topic. It's not going to be advice or ideas from advertised and branded stores who might give a biased opinion. AnAmigo knows your pets are your friends and they give you the avenue to share your enjoyment with others of the same interests.
The site is still in beta form which means you can have a lot of say in the last phases of completion. You'll also be able to notify the company if you find any bugs or trouble areas.

Hello! Why didn't anyone tell me about
Google Moon? All this time I have heard people's thoughts on Google Earth, which really is a cool app, but Google Moon is WAY cooler than that. You can get maps of Earth anywhere. But how many places can you get a map of the moon?
"Google Moon is an extension of Google Maps and Google Earth that, courtesy of NASA imagery (thanks, guys!), enables you to surf the Moon's surface and check out the exact spots that the Apollo astronauts made their landings."
IN short, all of you fellow geeks out there who sometimes wish you could up and leave Earth and take a vacation on the moon. Now you can! Well, no you can't, but at least now you can have more visuals of what it would be like. Quiet and dark.
It is more than just interactive mappage though, it has a little history and science lesson attached. You can read about the Apollo Series and chart it out. Pretty snifty if I do say so myself.

This may or may not make me more of a geek, but it is a known fact that I make up words. These fictitious words have even been titled and they are known as "Christyisms."
Well, tonight I found the website of my wordalicious dreams.
Verbotomy.
Each day at Verbotomy, they create a Verboticism, which is a comic and a definition. It is up to you to give the episode a name, or rather, a unique word which accurately depicts the moment and/or scenario.
OMFG.
Is this so me or what?
Immediately, I signed up and participated. You can see my
scrink profile here. And
here is a link to the word I created for today's definition/comic.
Now, I have no idea whatsoever what will become of this new word, but it was delightfully fun to create it. Enjoy!
Ohh and let me know which words you make up and/or learn at this site. For instance, created by a user named Tigger is the word harasshole.
harasshole - Definition: v. tr., To share your feelings with a customer service representative by using a perceived product deficiency to express your own sense of inadequacy and/or deep seated rage against the world. n., An irritating or annoying customer.
Hahahaha. See! How fun!?!?

Gotta love Digg man. I received a shout from a "mutual friend" on Digg and it was about not just hating war, but also loving peace. So I clicked and ended up on his website/blog called "Slices of Life." I was perusing and came across such an amazing mashup tool, I just can't even believe I've not heard of it until now.
So many thanks to "
Slices of Life" for the tip.
The tool is "
Musicovery" and what you do is pick your mood, pick your favorite genres and *poof* this brightly colored web of wonderfulness expands onto your screen with results based on your entries. I think you could compare it to Pandora, but really they are quite different because Pandora offers more of a variety of artists I think. But Musicovery allows more customization.
It looks like this is pretty much mainstream music, but the idea is great. I haven't registered yet, I'm just listening and learning as a guest. It's free and it lets you plot your mood on a spectrum and then creates a chart of songs to fit your mood. You can further narrow your results by genre, year and there is a little plus/minus icon you can choose if you don't like the song but that feature is activated only for registered users.

This morning, Sun Microsystems announced plans to acquire MySQL AB...the purchase comes with an $8.5 billion dollar price tag.
Should it put programmers on alert? I doubt it. I don't think the language is in jeopardy, it will probably be enhanced during integration but I am sure this will take many phases and is cause for many questions.
Sun has, for some time now, been the largest contributor to Open Source. It was only a matter of time before they started claiming territories. There should be no worries at this time, the same people will be maintaining MySQL.
It bothers me a bit that this news has caused a wave of panic or anxiety amongst users. Perhaps I am too optomisitc but I don't think Sun will go around firing people and stopping development. That would be foolish on their part and cause them too lose some credibility.
Hopefully this will mean better technologies and advancements in the development of additional (or forgotten) platforms for coders. Linux has soaked up the wealth thus far and I think Sun will try and branch it out a bit more. We shall see.

The Associated Press printed a story a few hours ago about how 990 bills for wire taps have been shut down because the FBI did not pay their bill. You can read the report official audit report
here.
"Telephone companies have cut off FBI wiretaps used to eavesdrop on suspected criminals because of the bureau's repeated failures to pay phone bills on time."
For those of you who are just plain unaware the (The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) "conducts undercover activities as part of its mission to detect and deter terrorist attacks and foreign intelligence threats and to enforce the laws of the United States."
It was the Inspector General from The Department of Justice Office who decided to have the FBI audited after one of their agents allegedly stole $25,000 in confidential case funds intended for undercover telecommunication services.
Lol.
Apparently the FBI did not have a comment when first approached about this situation. My guess is they'll either never have a comment OR we'll receive the comment after they get a red letter stamped 90 days past due! Let's end with a quote from
Ayn Rand, "So you think that money is the root of all evil. Have you ever asked what is the root of all money?"

This particular laptop bag, named "The Generator" is covered in solar panels powerful enough to charge your computer while you're on the move. Compared to other bags of this type, Voltaic's bag generates 14.7 watts of power while the other solar bags generated about 4 watts of power.
Since the bag is mainly made with recycled soda bottles it is essentially waterproof and very durable. Though I don't know about you, but my soda bottles get pretty pliable and very hot when I have them out in the sun. I imagine you'd have to have this laptop bag in direct sunlight for quite some time to generate that much power. Don't you think?
This lovely bag will be available sometime this coming Spring for $599. For more information be sure to check the
Voltaic Systems website.

Readers of Geek Sugar have already seen these fabulous
pacman pillows, but I thought I'd throw in a good word for them, too. Further proof that classic games maintain awesomeness forever.
If I bought a pacman pillow I would need all of them though. I don't think I could have just one of the game characters, it would be too misfit. You definitely need the whole crew.
Pieced and stitched for pixel perfection the backside of these pillows even show the split side of the ghosts from the game. You get the frantic blue, white-eyed ghosts on the back of each pillow.
Will Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde be donning your sofa or bed anytime soon?
