Everex has released their $200 "green" PC, it is currently available at Wal-Mart online and will soon be available in select Wal-Mart locations.

"It's $200, with no gimmicks or subsidies," Everex spokesman David Liu said.

I don't really understand this because you can't run much on this computer at all. It stinks that I'm sucking up so much energy but the fact of the matter is I am a programmer and a designer. I use Flash, I use Photoshop and Dreamweaver libraries...so I need something that's not going to freak out and stall if I need those programs open. And I need something that will allow me to have all of them installed and then some. You know what I mean?

You can access the web, email friends and family or play the latest DVDs without much difficulty. But look at these specs: 1.5GHz, VIA C7-D Processor, 512MB DDR2 533MHz, SDRAM, 80GB Hard Disk Drive...WoW players will not be participating in this "green" purchasing. Sorry environment nerds...I hear your pleas for help in our energy crises but I can't do this one. But I applaud your efforts!

Oh there is nothing like coming back to your office after a 3-day weekend only to find out that your PC has been attacked by spyware. I left my machine on, but I thought it had been locked. Needless to say there were 287 things picked up with the filter that catches ad-ware programs.

Being a University, the machines around here all have virus security, but I have to say I put a spyware checked on my machine on my own, because the defense against those things is needed since they are so prevalent these days.

It's not my job to talk you into looking for ways to secure your own network or PC, but you definitely should. Check out places like Filterweb.com, because they have reviews and guides on everything from internet security to spam blockers to instant message chat protection. If you work on a computer all day and it's a means to your livelihood, why would you not want to protect it? Ya know?

At this particular site you'll only be looking over the best. Every piece of hardware or software program discussed have all been highly rated by the various PC magazines that rate software. Give it a looksie. ;o)

You don't necessarily have to believe everything I say, which is why when I blog about something I do my research first. Most of the time I'm right on the mark. Recently, I was called out on who actually wrote a song...over on the music section of Bring Me Up. When that happened I began researching everything more and better. =o) Good for you, time consuming for me, but it's all good.

I recently read a press release on the wire about IBackup. They are a leading online backup/storage solution provider, who recently announced "enhanced booster file transfer technology to transfer files from their PC to their Online Storage drive along with support for International character sets to cater to the worldwide audience."

In reading their own "About Us" section after scanning the press release, I found that IBackup gives you highly customizable secure online backup, Online Storage, access and data sharing solution with several possible interfaces and options to backup, retrieve and manipulate data.

They have won many awards including the 'Webuser Gold Award' awarded by UK's best-selling Internet magazine, 'PC Magazine Editor's Choice' and were the 'favorite backup service' for PCWorld Magazine when they profiled 17 similar services.

One of the more favorable features for smaller companies and even educational centers would be to use the IDrive for IBackup which maps your IBackup online storage account as a local drive on your computer allowing you to drag-n-drop, open, edit and save files in your online backup account as if they were on your local computer.

IBackup has affordable subscription-based plans, so you won't break your bank account keeping your files safe and easily accessible.

Yes, it's true, 5 days out of the week I haul around a heavy laptop. It's heavy because it's one of those tablet laptops that allows me to wage digital warfare with Illustrator.

So many places are going wireless now that I often find myself picking up signals in odd places. But the problem is I can't plug into anything and my battery gets drained unbelievably fast! It causes me to clench my jaw tight and silently growl.

And so the search begins for the cheapest way to get batteries for my travels when occasions such as this arise. The lowest price for batteries anywhere is LCB, they have the lowest price in Dell Laptop Batteries, camcorder batteries, digital camera batteries, batteries used in medical equipment, UPS back-up batteries...I had no clue so many batteries existed but let me just tell you, LCB has them. Have no fear they aren't knock-offs either, they are brand name batteries just at cheaper prices. Imagine it to be like an online Costco warehouse, but just of batteries. You get the picture?

Interestingly, they also offer Battery Rebuilds for discontinued or hard to replace batteries which is pretty cool and I had to pass that news onto my grandparents. And I've told people I work for about the site, too, because we're all techie geeks and batteries come in very handy.

Microsoft has been creating several amazing products recently. Earlier this year I blogged about Photosynth. Today everyone is talking about surface computing. What was a top secret project - Microsoft has now unveiled as a new Surface computer. A coffee table type computer that interacts with objects and human touch. The table is basically a PC encased in a spiffy black table base with a delicious 30 inch touchscreen under an acrylic top.

5 cameras under the screen sense and identify objects. Wireless networking allows the computer to sense what object has been placed on the screen, and will automatically connect to it if able. A multi finger, multi user interface allows you to organize your photos and move them around as if they were real printed photos. No mouse, no keyboard, all touch - and with both hands if you want. Imagine placing a digital camera and a cell phone on the screen, and then all of the sudden see the pics spill out of the camera all over the screen, and sliding some of those images under the phone to transfer them.

Microsoft will initially target stores, hotels and casinos with the new technology. Surface computers will be available in some Las Vegas casinos, Starwood hotels and T-Mobile stores by the end of the year.

You would think something this awesome would be priced way too high for most of us to touch, but Microsoft is saying $5,000 to $10,000. Prices are expected to drop within 3-5 to make them much more affordable for the rest of us consumers.

Microsoft is working on a limited number of programs to ship with Surface, including one for sharing digital photographs - which couldn't possibly get old.

    Thank you Microsoft!

Researches at IBM have found a way to make microchips 35% faster or consume 15% less power - and not by using conventional methods. Their inspiration: seashells, snowflakes, and enamel on teeth. What did they do? They're using a compound that "self-assembles" in a similar way to a seashell or snowflake. This new process allows the wiring on a chip to be insulated with vacuum. This is a big deal for manufacturing chips. Conventional methods are limiting how far we can push the boundaries of speed and heat. And if you are wondering what this image is - it's a cross section of a chip showing the tiny holes.

The Metro Notebook. Here's a concept by Intel. A notebook that is under 1 inch thick and very light. It's designed to be carried over the shoulder, like a bag - and has an external e-Ink display to quickly view email your calendar or even eBooks! The screen is even active when the power is turned off. A cool looking cover will not only provide some protection to the notebook itself, but will provide that e-Ink display with power. The Metro Notebook is designed for on the go - wireless communications with an antennae which can be switched between Bluetooth, WiFi, and WiMax. Intel also hopes to ship the item enabled to charge your cellphone and other devices wirelessly through a charge pad..amazing!
