Foreign Born's second full length and Secretly Canadian debut, "Person To Person," set to be released June 23, 2009.

A holiday escape to the ocean side is meant to keep the tribulations of daily life at bay. Yet every joyous moment of vacation is undercut with a strange melancholy as you do the math on the finite nature of your getaway. So, you take your sweet, sweet time with that cold drink and offer a cheers an extra time or two.

"Vacationing People," the first taste of LA's Foreign Born's, "Person To Person," is cut through with this same duality: celebration in spite of trouble on the horizon. While the song is propelled by a benga-flavored beat, a fuzzed-out synth bass, clucking tropical cowbells and a soaring horn section, its frontman Matt Popieluch's emotive, Aschcroft-y delivery that keeps the song in check. "Yes, we lived a life of gray-lined silver," Popieluch sings as the song slows and quiets for some faux-Hawaiian slide guitar. "We live like vacationing people. We take our long walks falling."

Foreign Born is Lewis Pesacov, Matt Popieluch, Garrett Ray and Ariel Rechtshaid.

War on Drugs Update:

For a large part of its upcoming North American tour, Philadelphia's THE WAR ON DRUGS will be supporting The Hold Steady, whose frontman Craig Finn -- like you should have done by now -- has professed his love for the band's 2008 psych-Americana triumph "Wagonwheel Blues."
