Youth Group, the boys from Down Under arrived late last month for SXSW, after which they successfully made the transition to New York City, their headquarters for their East Coast residency. It all kicks off this Sunday, April 5 in Boston at TT the Bear's, and then heads south to New York City (Pianos, on Tuesdays) and Philadelphia (The M-Room, on Wednesdays). The band will stop in Montreal and Toronto, too, before heading west, where they'll end up on the Pacific Coast, just a stone's throw away from home.
Frontman Toby Martin, for one, is excited about the trip:
"Some things I am looking forward to doing in the States: driving down a road I have never been down in my life, into a town I have never visited, finding we are playing in a great venue with friendly people who feed us (unheard of in Australia!), playing a show to people who have actually heard our music, and then getting drunk with a whole bunch of new friends, shouting across the roof of America, fall down, getting up and then doing it all again the next day. It is a romantic life. It is a beat life. It is America's romantic genius."
Youth Group is planning on documenting their adventures, the places they see and the people they meet, and they're also planning to perform and film one a song a week in various locales throughout their tour. The first is from the BreakThru Radio studios in Manhattan, where they recorded a set on Tuesday, but there will be many more to come.
Youth Group play in store at The Sound Garden in Baltimore, MD on the 18th April @ 4pm. They are promoting new tracks from their
The Night Is Ours' out in the U.S on April 7, 2009.
