In August of 2008,
Gary Paul Bryant released
WildLife, a 13 track world rock fusion release, his 10th CD. These new upbeat instrumentals cross genres and generations draw on a palette of influence that includes classical, world, rock and jazz elements.
Okay, it's true, I am writing about this guy because he has a song called "One Cool Squirrel."
After hearing his 10th full length album, I think it is safe to say, Gary Paul Bryant is a keyboard genius and the additional trickle of some fantastic jazz cutting into the new album definitely kicks things up a notch.
The press release about the album started by saying, "Imagine Billy Joel or Elton John opting for careers as keyboardists rather than pop vocalists. Their music might sound a lot like the music on WildLife, from indie fusion veteran Gary Paul Bryant." Not sure I agree with that, but I can see where the writer was coming from, because Bryant certainly has the energy of Billy Joel and Elton John.
Here's a fun blurb straight from the mouth of the artist, "My first piano was retrieved from the basement of an abandoned school and delivered by a small cadre of well-meaning neighbors, for the sum of four cans of Narragansett lager beer. Growing up in a small mill town in New England, music was an important part of my life. So was that piano. When other kids on the school bus were playing their 'air guitars', I was hammering away furiously on my imaginary piano."
You might think he sounds like a goober, but I think he sounds amazing. He's for sure a man I'd like to meet some day. In the meantime, I'll let his music fill the background of my day.
