Mazes, a slinky new side-project from Edward Anderson and Caroline Donovan from Chicago psych-pop ensemble The 1900s, is ready to sashay. What started out as Ed's solo album seems to be a more democratic affair...or is it? Either way, while the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree in this case it seems to me to be a much more tender and juicy fruit. Mmmm...juicy fruit.
Mazes self-titled debut will be released March 17th. Available digitally March 3rd. Mazes are playing in Urbana, IL on February 27 (just blocks away from Parasol HQ) and again in Chicago at Schubas on March 12th with...The 1900s. Which means Ed and Caroline will be pulling a double-shift, yikes.

Parasol welcomes Chicago folk-rock act Cameron McGill & What Army. Their new album, Warm Songs for Cold Shoulders, is set for an early April release on Parasol Records. Lots of touring in support.
Veteran Seattle psych-pop band The Green Pajamas' gorgeous new album, Poison In the Russian Room, is set for an early April launch. This is their 7th release for Hidden Agenda Records.
Hometown heroes New Ruins' second album, We Make Our Own Bad Luck, will be released by Hidden Agenda this Spring. Rootsy folk-rock haunted by rural spectres. LP in March, CD in April.
The new album from former Television (and current Matthew Sweet and Rocket from the Tombs) guitarist Richard Lloyd will be released in April, hopefully. Entitled The Jamie Neverts Story it's an album of Hendrix covers with a rock-n-roll backstory that is pure Richard Lloyd.
Hidden Agenda Records will release the debut album from Chicago slowburn-folk troupe The Horse's Ha, led by Janet Bean (Eleventh Dream Day, Freakwater) backed by stalwart Chicago indie-rock vets. Think Fairport Convention, Pentangle and a little Astral Weeks, if you catch their drift. LP in May, CD in June.
In May, our Hidden Agenda imprint welcomes veteran New Zealand guitar-pop band The Bats to the roster, and hope you are as breathless at the notion of a new album as we are. The Guilty Office is The Bats 8th album and it lush and melancholy.
June will see the release of a new album from California trio The Orange Peels, led by esteemed songsmith Allen Clapp.
Medium High, the 28-minute mini-album from Chicago psych-pop troupe The 1900s releases on January 20, 2009.

More of The 1900s music for you to enjoy. In the beginning of August I
wrote about their upcoming "Cold & Kind" album which is going to be released on October 2nd. Since then there has been more hype circulating about the album, including a couple more tracks to share. Their EPs have been a smash and the tracks we're hearing off the new album are just superb. This is a must buy!
They're a bit geeky, a little symphonic, a mixture of melancholy and dreaminess...it's great music all around. When it comes to production and song-crafting, they have shown growth, I feel they are comfortable with their own little niche and confident with the sound they have developed.

I always say that when Braeden is older he is going to say "Mom, you're so old. You were like born in the 1900s." Haha. And it's true, because he was born in 2003 and so I'll always seem ancient.
But anyway, that's not what we're talking about.
The 1900s are releasing their debut record on October 2nd,
Cold & Kind. I can already tell you it is flippin' fantastic and I'll be on the pre-order list because this one is going to be gifted to all my closest friends at least sporadically as I can afford to buy them. Yes, it is THAT good. =o)
A seven piece group from Chicago! Can't beat that.
Parasol Records says, "As old friends, lovers and ex-lovers, The 1900s harness the resulting fury to build psychedelic pop music!" All-in-all their music is just phenomenal.
