You know the term "bubblegum pop" used to describe artists who combine the sounds of the 70s with a tinge of grungy material from current times? The Whitsundays fit the definition pretty well.

Some people think they could stand being more original, but I think they definitely add their own flair to their tracks. What I hear in "Sorry James" or "It Must Be Me" is full and adventurous. Unlike Apples In Stereo who almost try to hard for the retro sound, The Whitsundays just played and if that meant veering and branching they just went with it. The production doesn't sound stiff or meticulous which I think ends up the problem with other bands who allow their influences to be too much of a guide.

Thus, it's catchy and hummable. =o)
