Nightmare

By Christy On Tuesday, May 22, 2007 At 10:14 AM

Braeden had a rough weekend at his fathers, which is something I always brace myself for because he often acts differently when he comes back. So dealing with his clinginess and irritable mood is something I can do.

Sunday night my Mom saw a pronounced lump on Braeden's head, near the hairline behind his left ear. It's well above where glands should lay and it's about a 1 cm. lump. It's not red or bruised even though Brae mentioned someone hitting him. I made the first doctor's appointment for Monday morning and went in hoping for the best.

I left feeling more worried.

At the moment he is being treated as if it is a swollen gland that just happens to be located in an odd area. I am to closely monitor it and if it gets bigger I need to bring him back to the doctor immediately because it could be something "serious" that would require "aggressive treatment." Stupid doctors and their vague pockets of information. Though the doctor did say it is possible he has an inflammation of the mastoid bone behind his ear. Typically this happens when the ear has been infected and the fluid has seeped into the air cells of this "honeycomb" structured bone.

The way to treat it is the problem isn't a gland would be surgically.

An incision would have to be made to see that the lump is indeed an inflammation of the bone. That part of his bone would need to be removed. Then the area would need to be drained. This treatment is called a mastoidotomy.

Thank God for Brian. He was able to relax be and encourage me a little bit. I don't know how he does it.

So. Last night instead of sleeping I just watched my little boy sleep. And I kept peeking to see if the lump was gone. I want it to go away. To disappear.

Prayers are welcomed.
