Martian Child

Now that I have stopped crying I'm going to type-write. Brian, Braeden and I watched "Martian Child" tonight. Being a John Cusack lover I immediately bought the movie, pre-ordered it actually. I knew a little bit about it, but had no idea what a profound impact it would have on me. I'm a crier we all know it, but this movie was just so touching. There was so many instances during which I thought the little boy in the movie was a lot like my son Braeden. Different. Smart. And very different in the best of ways.David (John Cusack) lost his wife two years prior, we don't know what happened but we know he is still torn up about it and we see him in the beginning of the movie at her grave. For one reason or another he and hie wife were planning to adopt a child and now two years later a call came in with a good "match." A child named Dennis needed a home.
Dennis (Bobby Coleman) claims he is from Mars. He spends most of his time in an upside down cardboard box peeking through a whole viewing the rest of the world. His excuse is that he is afraid of the Earth's sun. He duct taped batteries together to form a belt which he said was his weight belt. This belt was the only thing holding him down on Earth because Mars was trying to fight gravity to pull him back.
David feels drawn to this little boy because he was a "black sheep" of sorts growing up. Plus he is a writer and the topic he most often writes about is anything in the realm of science fiction. How interesting that a human who writes about Mar would have the opportunity to adopt a Martian who would like to feel more human...
I'm not even going to tell you anymore. If this brief tidbit intrigued you then watch the movie. I know it has a special place in my heart now and I will recommend it to anyone. Much like the movie "Man Without A Face" which to this day I insist everyone would watch before they die. Well now I can add "Martian Child" for a list of two MUST SEE movies.
