Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban have donated $500,000 to charity the Red Cross in an effort to help their fellow Australians left homeless by raging bush fires.
More than 180 people have been killed in the inferno, which has destroyed more than 1,000 homes.
The couple appeared via satellite link during an Australian telethon to raise money for the country's Red Cross, during which the actress said, "Our hearts go out tonight to all the families that are dealing with the loss of loved ones and having to rebuild their lives again."
Joining the A-list couple in rallying public support were Russell Crowe, Naomi Watts, Hugh Jackman, Mel Gibson, Rachel Griffiths, Orlando Bloom and his model-girlfriend Miranda Kerr, Ellen DeGeneres and a host of musicians like k.d. lang, politicians and sports legends, all of whom sent appeals asking for money on behalf of the Nine Network's Australia Unites telethon.

It looks like Mickey Rourke might be up for a new career in comedy. That, or he's actually completely sane. A photog caught up with Rourke in NYC and asked if he was going out with Courtney Love? Rourke responded: "I'd rather be on a deserted island with a gorilla."
Oh my.

Quite possibly Hollywood's newest vegan couple, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi will be honored for their efforts to improve care for animals at the Humane Society's Genesis Awards next month.
The Wyler Award, named after the late Genesis Award founder, Gretchen Wyler, is given to celebrities or other public figures who have made the most noise in standing up for the better treatment of animals.
Looks like they've made the right choice. Where do we start?
Portia and Ellen both became vegans this year, saying no to every animal product, whether flesh or a byproduct. They both were active in getting the word out on Prop 2, the measure which passed in California to allow certain farm animals to move around freely.
They even share their lifestyle with people who are fortunate enough to be in their presence. The wedding reception menu was completely vegan. Ellen has given out vegan items quite a few times on her television show.
