Ben Affleck feared people would think he's "just an airhead celebrity" when he got involved with charity work in Africa.

The Man About Town actor - who has become a vocal supporter of humanitarian work in the Democratic Republic of Congo - admits he was worried the world wouldn't take him seriously when he announced his philanthropic plans, so decided to brush up on his knowledge of the region first.

He says, "I thought, well maybe I'd like to get involved, but I was nervous about it and I thought, you know, I don't want to be a dilettante."

Chloe Jo Berman, recently appeared on hip-hop station Hop 97 to chat about green living, veganism and how to be a sexy environmentalist.

About the interview, Chloe says:

"I had all sorts of preconceived notions about how hip hop tough guys would react to my eco, green, vegan ideas - but they were all smashed in the shnozz by the most open minded and adorably funny gentlemen I've met in years."

Ribbons on the red carpet are nothing new. But this one is.

Many of the celebs who will be walking the red carpet at the Oscars on Sunday will be wearing a white ribbon to show their support of same-sex marriage

Anne Hathaway will have one -- the same one she wore to the inauguration of President Obama -- as will the creators of the film Milk.

Rounding up the hottest and latest in gossip entertainment news for you.

Congrats to Gwen Stefani and husband Gavin Rossdale: the couple welcomed a baby boy on Thursday in Los Angeles. Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale popped out at 12:48pm, and weighed eight and a half pounds. Zuma Nesta Rock? Really? Are we sure she wasn't still on drugs when she told the doctor's to write that one down?

Britney Spears and ex-beau Justin Timberlake are bringing sexy back with a duet for Brit's new album due out at the end of the year.

Pop music's former couple were supposed to team up on Britney's last album "Blackout," but Brit never showed up for the recording session at music producer Timbaland's Virginia Beach recording studio last August.

    *~*~*

Melanie Chisholm is ready to spice up her life - with a baby!

The sometime Sporty Spice, 34, and her boyfriend of six years, property developer Thomas Starr, confirmed the pregnancy on her web site Friday morning.

"Some happy news," she wrote. "I can now announce that Tom and I are expecting a baby and we are very happy."

Barney Stinson and Stella, finally together.

OK, maybe not, but the actors who play those two characters on How I Met Your Mother have been tapped to host the Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards. Neil Patrick Harris and Sarah Chalke (best know for her work on Scrubs) will co-host the ceremonies, which will take place on September 13 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The event will air a week later, September 20, on the E! Channel.

Metallica have just released the first single off their upcoming album, Death Magnetic. The epic track is entitled "The Day That Never Comes" and it's now available through iTunes.

A bored star-struck copper cracked down on Katherine Heigl, when she recently threw her cigarette butt on the ground (no less than 10ft. from a garbage can at that!), a police officer biked over and told her to pick it up.

"He added that he'd fine her next time he catches her tossing trash on the sidewalk."

    Nice!

    *~*~*

Mariah Carey, Britney Spears and Nicole Kidman are among the stars named and shamed for their bizarre demands and rock 'n' roll behaviour in a list of the worst celebrity hotel guests.

    *~*~*

Last but not least it is true, Ricky Martin is now the parent of twin boys.

"The children, delivered via gestational surrogacy, are healthy and already under Ricky’s full-time care," the rep said in a statement. "Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children."

    Elated? Oh is he now?

For those of you who enjoyed Robert Downey, Jr. in "Iron Man" you'll have another chance to see him this summer in his August movie "Tropic Thunder." Somehow I doubt it will be as big a hit as "Iron Man."

Tropic Thunder, doesn't sound like my cup of tea. The director is none other than Ben Stiller and his cast of comedic actors attempt to poke holes in the movie industry, spoofing everything from iconic action heroes to the embarrassing obnoxiousness of professional comedians to racial stereotypes facing non-white actors. This kind of satire is typically not something I find amusing. Sorry.

Recently, Gavin Rossdale was interviewed and asked what it is like to be married to Gwen Stefani. His answer bothers me, but was probably made as a joke. "It's like marrying three different people a week, because you never know who's going to come out of the bathroom."

One of the cruelest rumors I have ever heard from the land of Hollywood came about this week in reference to Ashley Tisdale. Someone started a rumor that the actress has HIV. If this had been true it of course would be very upsetting. It was said she contracted the virus after a stay in the hospital. She and her reps have said it is completely untrue. I feel extremely awful for her.

Julia Roberts' daughter has psychic powers - she knew her baby brother was going to be born prematurely, and even guessed the day. Rock on!

And...Clint Eastwood told Spike Lee he needed to "shut his face." It didn't go over well.

Drew Barrymore needed a good guy, one to keep her balanced and happy. It's so great to see this couple looking happy and googly eyed with each other. I know a lot of press are knocking their PDA but I think holding hands, smiling big and staying close to each other is something we need to see more of in LA. I just can't stand the couples who not only make out in public, but practically do each other with their clothes on. Bleck!

They have a movie coming out on August 1st, "He's Just Not That Into You."

Oh and in the world of celebrity babies the rumor is that Angelina Jolie is pregnant. But now there is word that Gwen Stefani is expecting her second child with husband Gavin Rossdale. =o) Gwen was asked if Gavin is being supportive and her response was, "He makes whatever food I crave." How sweet!
