Weezer bus crash

Winter ice causes havoc on the road. Rivers Cuomo, the singer-guitarist for rock band Weezer, was hospitalized early Sunday morning after the group's tour bus skidded off a frozen New York highway.

A bus carrying Rivers Cuomo, his family, and his assistants in upstate New York hit a patch of black ice and "[plunged] about 8-10 vertical feet into a muddy ravine off to the right of the Thruway." Nobody was seriously injured, though one of Cuomo's assistants "sustained two fractured ribs and a fractured lower vertebrae," Cuomo himself "cracked three ribs and sustained some mostly minor but very painful internal damage," and everyone was clearly shaken.

For now, tour dates are canceled with plans to reschedule at a later time.

Reportedly, Tiger Woods will confess his affairs on Oprah Winfrey's US TV talk show. report.

The golfer - who has allegedly cheated on Elin Nordegren, his wife of almost six years - with several different women - is considering an "enticing" offer to sit down with media mogul for a truth talk about the latest controversy.

Woods, 33, apparently wants Nordegren, 29, to join him on the famous sofa.

"Tiger absolutely hates talking about his private life but these are desperate times," a source said.

Hmm...not sure I believe that...any of it...but we'll have to see.

Lifetime Achievement Awards

Robert De Niro, Bruce Springsteen and Mel Brooks have been given lifetime achievement awards.

The legendary entertainers were praised by the President Barack Obama at the Kennedy Center Honours yesterday (06.12.09), where they were presented with their accolades at a black-tie event for transforming the arts in America.

Obama told the 300 celebrity guests - which included Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Edward Norton, Matthew Broderick and Philip Seymour Hoffman - at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts that the entertainers were being honored because they were "the best".

He said: "These performers are indeed the best. They are also living reminders of a single truth - and I'm going to steal a line from my wife Michelle here - the arts are not somehow apart from our national life, the arts are the heart of our national life."

New director for Gossip Girl

Andrew McCarthy, the star of some of the most iconic teen movies of the '80s (Pretty in Pink, Less Than Zero), is getting back to his roots by taking on the CW's sexy drama, Gossip Girl.

McCarthy, who will direct an episode set to air in the spring, says the show's young stars are different than the ones who came to be known as the Brat Pack. "They are much more savvy then we were," McCarthy tells PEOPLE of Gossip Girl's cast. "We were just a bunch of dumb kids running around."

McCarthy, a Gossip Girl fan, is excited to get behind the camera to direct the steamy show. "We have a nice episode, all sorts of juicy little things happen - the normal Gossip Girl juicy things," McCarthy tells PEOPLE of the episode he directs. So what exactly qualifies as "juicy" in the world of Gossip Girl?

"I can't give you much," says a tight-lipped McCarthy. "Except, there is a 9 1/2 Weeks kind of thing going on in one story line," he says, referring to the 1986 drama starring Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger that chronicled an erotic affair between an art gallery assistant (played by Basinger) and a wealthy business man (played by Rourke).

McCarthy's episode isn't scheduled to air until 2010.

Someone mysterious is coming to the town of Eastwick. Something magical is already there.

Roxie Torcoletti (Rebecca Romijn) is a free-spirited, earthy artist who has trouble paying the bills. Don’t all free-spirited, earthy artists have that problem? Scuttlebutt around town is that Roxie is a widowed mom to teen daughter, Mia (Ashley Benson), because she killed her hubby. The guys around here think Roxie’s way younger boyfriend, Chad, has heard the rumors but just doesn’t care because she’s so ridiculously gorgeous.

Joanna Frankel (Lindsay Price) is a talented journalist at the local paper who is typically relegated to writing fluff pieces for her editor. We’ll call him cop-a-feel Clyde. Joanna’s best friend Penny (Sara Rue) reminds her that even though her talents aren’t being fully realized, at least she gets to work with the secret object of her affection, Will (Johann Urb), a photographer at the Eastwick Gazette.

Finally, we have Kat Gardener (Jaime Ray Newman), a hardworking nurse and mom of five who married her high school sweetheart, Raymond (Jon Berthnal). Kat’s been supporting the family ever since Ray was laid off from the local candle factory (he was in charge of wicks). Now all Raymond does is sit around and drink beer.

These three women want more out of life. They simultaneously make a wish by tossing a coin into a fountain as Bun (Veronica Cartwright), the head of the Eastwick historical society, tells the local kiddies tales of women who have special gifts, or special powers, who are drawn together as the magic inside them finally awakens.

The funny guy even says he's ready for diaper duty. "It's the first time that I really want to have kids," he told PEOPLE while promoting his new comedy Couples Retreat.

Angelina Jolie has stopped eating (as much) causing insiders to speculate her relationship with partner Brad Pitt is on the rocks. Again.

The actress, 34, has reportedly lost 10 more pounds due to stress since she and Pitt returned to Chateau Miraval in the South of France a month ago to supposedly rebuild their relationship.

"Angelina's off her food again, which is a sure sign the relationship's in trouble. Her bones were jutting out and she looks ill," a source told a British magazine.

An excellent point made by Charlize Theron when she was recently asked about the much rumored about role of Catwoman in the next installment of Batman. Though there isn't even a script being written yet, many people in Hollywood are speculating on the addition of the sexy, villainous role to the next movie and many high-profiled names are being tossed around as candidates.

Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie and Ashley Judd have all been mentioned, but Charlize wants her crack at the femme fatale role.

She was quoted saying: "I think what has happened to that franchise is amazing. (Batman filmmaker) Chris Nolan is a genius."

Jessica Biel will take part in a charity expedition to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa next January.

The 27-year-old actress hopes to raise awareness to the need for communities to have access to clean water worldwide.

In addition, Twilight fans anticipate Meyer's adult big-screen debut With the chaos surrounding Twilight (okay, read: Robert Pattinson), it's easy to forget that Stephenie Meyer actually wrote the series for a young adult audience.

And now Hollywood is bracing itself. Three producers -- Nick Wechsler and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz -- have put up their own money to purchase the property for The Host film production.

Patrick Swayze Tribute

When my husband came upstairs last night to tell me Patrick Swayze had died I was genuinely upset. Even though it wasn't as much of a shock as when Heath Ledger died, it still hit me hard. How does that happen? I don't know him and yet I'm quite saddened to know he lost his battle with cancer.

Demi Moore (Ghost) via Twitter - "Patrick you are loved by so many and your light will forever shine in all of our lives. In the words of Sam to Molly. 'It's amazing Molly. The love inside, you take it with you.' I will miss you."

Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing) - "When I think of him, I think of being in his arms when we were kids, dancing, practicing the lift in the freezing lake, having a blast doing this tiny little movie we thought no one would ever see. (He was a) real cowboy with a tender heart... it was not surprising to me that the war he waged on his cancer was so courageous and dignified. Patrick was a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace. My heart goes out to his wife and childhood sweetheart, Lisa Niemi, to his mum, Patsy, and to the rest of their family."

In January 2008, Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He fought the cancer with courage and unfortunately lost the battle. He died Monday at the age of 57, with his family by his side.

"[He] passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," his publicist, Annett Wolf, said in a statement.

Swayze's breakout role was in the 1983 ensemble movie, The Outsiders, but he was best known for his role as Johnny Castle in 1987's Dirty Dancing, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.

He was also nominated for Golden Globes for his role in 1990's Ghost opposite Demi Moore and for 1995's To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.

His career also included performances in such films as Red Dawn, Point Break and Donnie Darko. His last role was in A&E series The Beast.

Maybe you and Chris Farley are up there laughing about your old Chippendale skit from SNL. Wherever and whatever... It is a sad time indeed.

Another Kennedy Loss

Edward Kennedy died late Tuesday night at home in Hyannis Port on Cape Cod, his family said in a statement. A malignant brain tumor was diagnosed in May 2008.

It is a sad time. Ted Kennedy was a strong, courageous man.

By the time of his death in Hyannis Port at the age of 77, he had 46 working years in Congress, time enough to leave his imprint on everything from the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act of 2009, a law that expands support for national community-service programs. Over the years, Kennedy was a force behind the Freedom of Information Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. He helped Soviet dissidents and fought apartheid. Above all, he conducted a four-decade crusade for universal health coverage, a poignant one toward the end as the country watched a struggle with a brain tumor.

Schwarzenegger says he and his wife, Maria, are "immensely saddened" by the death of her "Uncle Teddy."

In a statement issued hours after the Massachusetts Democrat succumbed to brain cancer, the pair said he "was the rock of our family."

Kennedy's death came just two weeks after that of Maria Shriver's mother, Eunice Kennedy, one of the senator's siblings. He had attended her wake but was noticeably absent from her funeral, even though it was held near his Cape Cod home.

The governor said he has "personally benefited and grown" from Kennedy's experience and advice.

He also says the senator "taught us all that public service isn't a hobby or even an occupation, but a way of life."

On the political side:

Unlike most states, a successor to fill Sen. Edward Kennedy's seat in the Senate will be chosen through a special election, not by the governor.

Massachusetts law requires a special election for the seat no sooner than 145 days and no later than 160 days after a vacancy occurs. The law bans an interim appointee.

In a letter to state legislators, Kennedy asked that the governor be allowed to name an interim senator. The governor is a Democrat, which would guarantee any appointee would help maintain the party's 60-vote majority.

The request is critical to maintaining Democratic votes on health-care legislation that is moving through Congress and that has been a lifelong pursuit for Kennedy.

In the letter, dated July 2 and released Aug. 20, Kennedy also supported a special election. Such a contest likely will dramatically increase the number of competitors and create a political "domino" that could reach the precinct level of the Bay State, says Fred Bayles, director of Boston University's statehouse program.

Oxford researchers yesterday released a report saying the drug was too strong for kids and could do them more harm than good.

Jude Law was shocked to find out he'd gotten model Samantha Burke pregnant with his fourth child - he thought she was on the Pill, it has been claimed.

"Jude assumed she was on the Pill," a source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper. "He was stunned at being informed of the pregnancy. Jude feels like now he has been made to look the bad guy. One of the reasons their brief relationship didn't work out is because Samantha was a little too keen.

Michael Jackson passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009. It was confirmed by the LA Times. He was 50 years old and was rushed to the hospital today after suffering a heart attack at his LA home.

"All those who knew him well really know what he was like, and I'm sure that now the accolades are going and I'm sure when the autopsy comes, all hell's going to break loose. So thank God we're celebrating him now."

Ed McMahon died shortly after midnight at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center surrounded by his wife, Pam, and other family members, said his publicist, Howard Bragman.

Bragman didn't give a cause of death, saying only that McMahon had a "multitude of health problems the last few months."

McMahon had bone cancer, among other illnesses, according to a person close to the entertainer, and had been hospitalized for several weeks.

Jennifer Aniston is "on top of the world" after Brad Pitt's mom told her former daughter-in-law: "My son still loves you!" The 40-year-old is now convinced that she'll be reunited with Brad, whom she divorced in 2005 after five years of marriage, as soon as he breaks free from partner Angelina Jolie.

Daryl Hannah has been arrested along with 30 other environmental protestors after they blockaded a coal mine in the US.

The Kill Bill star, 48, was arrested in West Virginia along with her co-environmentalists after blocking off a road leading to a coal processing plant in Raleigh County.

She was arrested and charged on "misdemeanor charges of obstruction and impeding traffic".

The actress and fellow green campaigners crew was protesting against opencast mountaintop mining which they claim has an unacceptable environmental.

Robert Pattinson has been told to spend his evenings in the gym because 'Twilight' producers don't want him wasting the nights drinking.

An insider told 'Life & Style' magazine that movie bosses asked Rob - who is in the middle of filming 'New Moon', the second installment in the vampire franchise - to work out every day for the film but believes the request was just a ploy to keep him from drinking the night before big scenes. "It was their way of keeping him in line," the source said.

The inaugural week-long Twilight fan cruise, which will set sail in August 2010 for 3-day/4-night trip departing from Washington. Fans will also be treated to other activities including a costume ball, group photo shoot and charity auction.

It's that time of year again when writing about amusement parks and beaches will happen because I'm in desperate need of a vacation and relaxation. And last year I found out about Morey's Piers in New Jersey. Granted I never thought of New Jersey as a hot spot, but there is a lot offered for families and so it quickly became a vacation stop MUST.

Wildwood vacations hold the promise of fun for any family of music lovers which mine is. There are concerts galore on the piers thanks to Radio Disney. Beginning Monday, June 29, Morey's Piers will host weekly live concerts featuring up and coming stars. Every Monday through August 31, guests can catch a free concert on Mariner's Landing pier. Ryan Reynolds' will reprise his role as X-Men mutant Deadpool after landing his own spin-off in the comic book film franchise.

Reynolds starred alongside Hugh Jackman in the fourth movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine; and studio bosses at Twentieth Century Fox have already begun development on a film to flesh out his character's story, reports Variety.

The actor will take over the big screen as Deadpool and alter-ego Wade Wilson, a cancer-stricken mercenary who becomes an indestructible mutant thanks to a genetic experiment. Just last week Wolverine director Gavin Hood sparked reports Reynolds is set to star in his own X-Men movie, revealing he hopes to chronicle Deadpool's superhero background.

Britney Spears has many demands, but when she is staying at a hotel while on tour she has some interesting ones indeed.

Among her requests: a room that has "never" been smoked in, humidifiers in all areas, a selection of current magazines, fresh flowers she'll arrange herself, chick-lit novels, DVDs of Marilyn Monroe movies, 100-watt light bulbs, running routes for Hyde Park and more. She won't need special pillows because she bring her own. And one more thing: Security will sleep outside her room.

She also recently decided she wanted to shell out $30K on an oxygen chamber.

"Since her Vancouver gig, where she ran off stage as it was too smoky, she's become paranoid about breathing in too much bad air," a source told British newspaper The Sun. "She's keen on an oxygen chamber that will reverse any smoke inhalation damage."

Spears isn't the only star to indulge in the the expensive gadget - Madonna, Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson all own one.

Tom Hanks has declared he is finally confident about his acting ability.

"I no longer feel insecure about my acting. Early on I took any job that was offered, milking it for the money," said the double Oscar-winner.

"I had no idea what I was doing - that's when insecurity and self-loathing start."

The 52-year-added that he has also thrown away his vanity.

"After a while you have to give up being vain. In [new film] Angels And Demons I have to wear a Speedo to go swimming," Hanks told Britain's Radio Times.

"It takes a real man to slap on a Speedo and say, 'I'm ready for work.'"

Jon Favreau is also back behind the camera and if number 2 is as good as number 1 was, I think we're in for a treat.

Favreau told USA Today that the movie "takes place six months after Tony Stark revealed his identity as Iron Man, and the development is playing out with unexpected results."

Hollywood actor Jamie Foxx wants to make a biopic based on the life of boxing legend Mike Tyson.

Foxx, who won critical acclaim for his portrayal of soul legend Ray Charles in the flick 'Ray', admitted that he would love to portray Mike in a flick.

"I think I would have to play Mike Tyson. I've talked to Mike several times and his story is the most tragic American story... Mike's story is about what America and the world is about today," Contactmusic quoted Foxx, as saying.

"Coming up at 18 years old and getting his $60 million and not teaching him what taxes are about, about vultures, about people who will never be real with you as long as you have the money," Foxx added.

Foxx revealed that he has already started working on his dream project.

"I'm working on securing the rights to the movie," Foxx said.

That is one movie I won't be watching nor will care to miss.

Scarlett Johansson's dream of being a director was dashed on her first try.

Johansson -- who's said in the past she'd prefer to direct rather than act -- helmed a segment for the upcoming movie "New York, I Love You," a series of intertwined love stories shot by several auteurs, including Brett Ratner and Natalie Portman.

But unfortunately for Johansson, her segment, starring Kevin Bacon and shot in black and white, was deemed "unwatchable," sources said.

The film's producer, Emmanuel Benbihy, said Johansson's bit ended up in the scrapheap not because it was bad, but because "the story did not specifically involve an interpersonal relationship, and it was conceptualized to be filmed in black and white -- both of which were extreme departures from the other films."

Hockey is ending, baseball is boring (quite frankly) and football is still not in gear even if it's all you hear about with the draft. So until we get some real action to watch there's a sort of lull in sports land.

In the meantime why not get in on some Footvolley action?

According to Wikipedia, footvolley is a sport similar to beach volleyball in which the feet and other body parts are used instead of the hands and arms.

It was announced yesterday that 30 Days of Night director David Slade has been hired to helm the third film in the Twilight saga, Eclipse. He's following in the footsteps of the series' first director, Catherine Hardwicke, and New Moon's Chris Weitz.

Why so many different directors? I'm not sure this is a good thing folks.

The Russian woman who claimed she was having an affair with Mel Gibson has been silenced - by the actor's lawyers.

Oksana Pochepa, 24, said during a press conference that Gibson's legal team feared an affair could cost the actor a fortune in his $900 million divorce.

"Until Mel and his wife Robyn settle their relations, no one has the right to speak about this," she said.

The X-Files star Gillian Anderson is set to return to her sci-fi roots - British TV bosses are lining her up for a cameo role in Doctor Who.

The 40 year old starred alongside David Duchovny in the cult 1990s show and two subsequent movies in 1998 and last year.

TV executives in the U.K. are reportedly keen to sign Anderson for a special one-off episode of hit show Doctor Who - playing a villain to do battle with the Time Lord in the ultimate sci-fi showdown.

For his final Sin City show on Wednesday night Elton played his greatest hits, much to the delight of his adoring fans, whom he thanked for their support.

Meat's not green, says Emily Deschanel in her latest PSA for PETA. The meat industry is responsible for more greenhouse gases than all forms of transportation combined, according to a recent report by the UN on Climate Change.

"There is no such thing as a meat-eating environmentalist. Now-a-days being green is very fashionable — especially in Hollywood," Emily says.
