My brother's case was assigned to a different detective with the Newark Police. Detective Bryda. He met with Greg on Thursday, September 29, 2005 and then he met with Greg's friend, a witness to the assault, a couple of days ago. It would please me very much to know he took the time to meet with them if I had heard that the discussion had gone better. Greg said that Detective Bryda was accompanied by another officer who rolled his eyes during the interview while my brother was speaking. The detective asked Greg the same questions he was asked the day after the assault and then told him that there would probably be no further follow up because there isn't enough information to go on.

Later the aforementioned witness, spoke with Detective Bryda, he let my brother know that the detective said he didn't believe Greg's story and that it seemed to make more sense that Greg had instigated the assault.

Again, I want to stress that my brother will be 22 years old this month. He is on the Dean's List at the University of Delaware and has worked two jobs throughout his schooling, in addition to frequently volunteering at St. Margaret's of Scotland, our church. Greg is not a trouble maker and he was not looking for a fight the night he was assaulted. Perhaps it would be easier to say that this hadn't been a random act of violence, but that is not the case. Since Greg was assaulted there have been three other instances reported of violence in the same area. Three before Greg and three after Greg, six reported accounts of violence in four weeks time. I stress the word "reported" because I am confident other victims just didn't have the faith to go to the police.

Once again I am asking everyone to please speak out against the violence that is overwhelming the streets of Newark, Delaware in and around the University of Delaware campus.

Thank you,
Christy
