There is a new story on delawareonline.com which was posted this afternoon, October 20, 2005 at approximately 2 p.m. The headline states this, "Newark police, UD Public Safety crack down on alcohol-related assaults." I think it's fantastic, accept they are still blaming everything on alchol which is a mistake, because there have been instances of violence in which alchol did not play a part. Like the robbery at gunpoint yesterday morning. And this article states that the ewark Police and University of Delaware Public Safety will be putting forth more of an effort to curb the assault by holding a zero-tolerance form of action in relation to alcohol violations and noise violations. Somehow, I just don't think they are grasping the true problem. However, this is promising and I will continue following up on what is to come.

There is a new article related to the same topic in today's paper, October 21, 2005. It is actually quite interesting. It bothers me that Newark Police and UD officials are blaming the recent elevated violence on and off campus on alcohol. Clearly the issue is beyond that and we all know it because we know there have been instances in which people who have not been partying have been assaulted and/or robbed. However, I do think that this will mean there is going to be a higher presence of protective authority on the streets and that is a wonderful thing. You can read the full article here.

Once again I am asking everyone to please speak out against the violence that is overwhelming the streets of Newark, Delaware in and around the University of Delaware campus.

Thank you,
Christy
