Every 3 months Braeden goes to A.I. duPont Hospital for Children to see Dr. McGeady. Dr. McGeady is a brilliant man who specializes in helping children with immune deficiencies. As most of you know Braeden is IgA deficient. Braeden’s levels of IgA immunoglobins have always been so far below normal that he has been bordering the possibility of other immunglobins being affected. If that happened he would have an auto-immune deficiency and well I don’t want to get into that.
Today his appointment went well. He was very brave during his blood work and during his exam. It has come to my attention and to Dr. McGeady’s attention that Braeden suffers from child migraines. This is a recent development, which began only four or five months ago. Braeden will start to slow down, refuse his cookies, hold his head and complain of a headache. He will ask for tylenol and then tell me to turn the lights off. =o( Treatable of course but he may begin seeing a neurologist if they become more frequent and/or severe. I’m hoping against that of course.
He will continue to stay on his Pulmicort to prevent asthma attacks and Albuterol when he has an attack. And he will continue to be on Nasonex to keep his adnoids in check. All typical everyday stuff for Braeden, he doesn’t know any different.
The bloodwork was sent out at super speed as usual because Brae’s results typically get picked up fast due to his condition. The doctor called me this evening at about 8 p.m. which normally makes me feel sick because an evening phone call from his doctor has never been good news. That is until tonight. Braeden’s levels of IgA, IgG and IgM are improving. They still are not normal, but they have risen and all I can say to that is thank you God. Thank you, thank you, thank you! To me this is a miracle.
I have no way to even begin to express just how amazingly wonderful this news is to hear. When I got off the phone I nearly screamed with excitement. As long as the visits continue to go this way then Braeden will be able on the road to becoming complete with healthy antibodies made by his own body.
