The Gezelligheid Experience

Gezelligheid, a Dutch word that defies simple translation, embodies the essence of coziness, warmth, and togetherness. Andrew Bird, a Chicago native and multi-instrumentalist virtuoso, first encountered this concept in Amsterdam and has since made it the cornerstone of his annual winter performances. These concerts are designed to create an atmosphere of intimacy and comfort, serving as a balm for the long, dark Midwestern winters.

Musical Collaborations

This year’s Gezelligheid showcases Bird’s exceptional talent alongside his longtime collaborators:

  • Nora O’Connor: A skilled Chicago musician who has previously performed with Bird’s Bowl of Fire ensemble.
  • Alan Hampton: A bassist and guitarist who brings rich vocal harmonies and a touch of humor to complement Bird’s performances.

Adding a special flair to the nightly lineup is Mary Lattimore, whose presence promises to enhance the already magical atmosphere of the concerts.

Limited tickets remain for tonight’s show (12/10), all other performances have sold out.

If you can’t join them in Chicago, Gezelligheid will stream live this Wednesday (12/11) on Nugs.net
