Maggie Rogers: The Song Sorceress Who’s Got Me Hooked

Maggie Rogers

If you’ve ever found yourself dancing around your living room, heart pounding to the rhythm of Maggie Rogers‘ electrifying beats, you’re not alone. This Maryland-born maven has a knack for crafting tunes that resonate deeply, whether you’re sweating it out in a workout or seeking solace from the day’s chaos.

From “Alaska” to Stardom

Maggie’s journey to the limelight is the stuff of modern legend. In 2016, during a master class at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute, she played her song “Alaska” for none other than Pharrell Williams. His reaction? Pure astonishment. That moment catapulted Maggie into the global music scene, and she hasn’t looked back since.

Discography That Dazzles

Her debut major-label album, Heard It in a Past Life (2019), showcased her unique blend of folk, pop, and electronic influences. Tracks like “Light On” quickly became fan favorites, capturing the delicate balance between vulnerability and resilience. Not one to rest on her laurels, Maggie released Surrender in 2022, an album that further cemented her status as a musical force to be reckoned with. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, she graced us with Don’t Forget Me in 2024, a testament to her evolving artistry.

Touring: Catch Her Live

For those eager to experience her magic in person, Maggie has some exciting performances lined up. Notably, on April 5, 2025, she’ll be gracing the stage at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA, as part of a concert celebrating the Contemplative Sciences Center at the University of Virginia. It’s an event you won’t want to miss!

A Personal Note

It’s no surprise that Maggie’s music has found its way into various facets of our lives. Whether it’s powering through a workout with “Want Want” blaring through the speakers or finding solace in “Light On” during challenging times, her songs serve as both an escape and a companion. And for those of us who cherish the tactile experience of music, spinning her vinyl records adds an extra layer of connection. I do so love the crackle of vinyl.

I have a playlist on Spotify called “Save Me From Vecna,” a la Stranger Things. Maggie has two tracks on that playlist, and rightly so. If ever some kind of otherworldly demon is trying to rapture my soul turn on some Maggie, it’ll save me.

One of my fave tracks

//Oh, if you keep reachin’ out
Then I’ll keep comin’ back
‘Cause if you’re gone for good
Then I’m okay with that
If you leave the light on
Then I’ll leave the light on
//

I sing it LOUDLY while driving 🙂
